Position Summary
Mercer Controls is seeking a highly organized Purchasing & Inventory Manager to own all purchasing and inventory activities across the business. This role is responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials for both large projects and daily service work, maintaining strong vendor relationships, and ensuring inventory is properly stocked, tracked, and organized.
This position is critical to our operations. A single missing part can delay an entire project, so attention to detail, follow-through, and responsiveness are essential. The ideal candidate is proactive, flexible, and thrives in a fast-moving environment where priorities can shift quickly.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing & Procurement
- Purchase materials for project work (multi-part BOMs tied to specific jobs) and service work (one-off and stocked items).
- Coordinate closely with engineers, project managers, and field technicians to understand material needs and timelines.
- Source parts from approved vendors and identify alternates when needed to avoid delays.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms to ensure best value for the company.
- Track purchase orders, deliveries, backorders, and lead times to ensure materials arrive when needed.
Inventory Management
- Establish and maintain an organized inventory and stocking system.
- Track inventory levels and ensure critical parts are stocked appropriately.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and reconcile physical inventory with system records.
- Organize and manage the warehouse to ensure parts are easy to locate and properly labeled.
- Proactively identify low-stock or long-lead items and reorder before shortages occur.
Coordination & Execution
- Ensure all required materials are available before project builds and field work begin.
- Prevent delays by anticipating issues and resolving them early.
- Respond quickly to urgent needs when projects or service calls require immediate action.
- Maintain clear documentation and communication around purchasing and inventory status.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory management, or supply chain roles.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong follow-through — nothing falls through the cracks.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly when urgent needs arise.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Comfortable working with vendors and negotiating pricing and terms.
- Proficiency with Excel and basic business software (ERP, purchasing, or inventory systems a plus).
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience in electrical, industrial, or construction-related purchasing.
- Familiarity with electrical components, control panels, instrumentation, or automation systems.
- Experience setting up or improving inventory systems.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
