Position Overview
The Electrical Engineer serves as a technical leader supporting project development, project execution, and field operations. The primary responsibility of this role is helping customers solve problems and turn ideas into well-defined projects. This includes meeting with customers, evaluating sites, developing technical solutions, defining scope, creating proposals, and supporting the sales team throughout the sales process. Once projects are awarded, the engineer provides technical direction to designers, technicians, and project teams to ensure projects are executed correctly and efficiently.
Primary Responsibilities
· Project Development & Customer Support
· Meet with customers to understand operational challenges and project requirements.
· Visit customer sites to evaluate existing systems and gather information.
· Develop technical solutions for control panels, SCADA systems, instrumentation, scale systems, and other custom projects.
· Define project scope, develop conceptual designs, and assist in preparing proposals.
· Support the sales team during customer presentations, proposal reviews, and technical discussions.
· Build and maintain relationships with municipalities, engineers, contractors, and industry partners.
· Project Engineering & Technical Direction
· Develop project scope and technical requirements after award.
· Provide direction to designers and drafters regarding panel layouts, control strategies, and component selection.
· Review electrical drawings, schematics, panel designs, and bills of material.
· Standardize designs, components, and engineering practices across projects.
· Support project managers and field personnel with technical decision-making.
· Field Service & Troubleshooting Support
· Serve as a technical resource for field technicians troubleshooting electrical and control systems.
· Provide guidance on troubleshooting methods, component selection, repair approaches, and system improvements.
· Assist with startup, commissioning, and complex field issues when needed.
· Help develop technical documentation, standards, and troubleshooting resources.
· Continuous Improvement
· Identify opportunities to improve engineering, design, and field execution processes.
· Document best practices and support training and development of team members.
· Help Mercer Controls expand technical capabilities and strengthen its reputation in the market.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience.
· 5 years of experience with industrial, municipal, or utility electrical and control systems.
· Strong understanding of PLCs, SCADA systems, instrumentation, motor controls, VFDs, relays, and power distribution.
· Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and control schematics.
· Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with customers.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with municipal water and wastewater systems.
· Control panel design or fabrication experience.
· Project estimating or proposal development experience.
· Experience supporting field service technicians.

· Salary Range $130k - $150k
