Position Summary

Mercer County High School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Head Assistant Football Coach to support the Head Coach in leading and developing a competitive, disciplined, and student-centered football program. The Head Assistant Coach plays a key role in player development, game preparation, and program operations while promoting academic success, sportsmanship, and character.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Football Coach in planning, organizing, and implementing all aspects of the football program

• Lead position groups and assist with offensive and/or defensive game planning

• Help design and conduct effective practices, drills, and conditioning sessions

• Assist with game-day preparation, including scouting reports, film breakdown, and strategy

• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, meetings, travel, and team activities

• Support player development with an emphasis on fundamentals, teamwork, discipline, and leadership

• Enforce team rules, school policies, and athletic department standards

• Promote academic accountability and positive behavior among student-athletes

• Assist with offseason programs, including strength training and player development

• Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, coaches, and school administrators

• Help with equipment management, fundraising, and program organization as needed

Qualifications

• Previous football coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred

• Strong knowledge of football fundamentals, rules, and strategies

• Ability to teach, motivate, and mentor student-athletes

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

• Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team culture

• Ability to work collaboratively with coaching staff and school personnel

• Must meet all state and district requirements for high school coaching, including background checks and certifications
