Purpose of the Position
Under general supervision, this position will support and/or lead new tool builds, engineering changes, Body-in-White (BiW) and assembly equipment changes, tool improvements, and feasibility input for tool, part, and equipment changes under consideration.
This role will also validate changes in tool cost, equipment cost, engineering change cost, and piece price, while working with ramp-up and support teams including Quality, Einfuehrung, Development Hub, and other cross-functional partners on current series production, current project ramp-up, and future projects as directed.
Key Responsibilities
- Review tool and equipment quality, part and assembly quality, and tool and assembly process capability to help determine readiness for series production.
- Partner with Quality and Einfuehrung teams to support production-readiness decisions.
- Track new tools and communicate with internal departments as needed to support tooling decisions.
- Participate in and support preparation for process review trials, including B-phase and Production Trials, at Anlauffabrik in Germany, supplier locations, and MBUSI.
- Support home-line integration activities at supplier locations and at MBUSI.
- Prepare and present information for tool and product reviews, meetings, and required reports.
- Organize internal and external meetings to define problems, review findings, and support issue resolution.
- Exchange information with Quality, Einfuehrung, Development Hub, suppliers, and related stakeholders to help ensure tooling and equipment quality, capability, timing, and MBUSI requirements are met.
- Provide feedback to Purchasing on supplier tooling deliverables and tooling-related payment readiness when requested.
- Confirm tool cost and piece price.
- Provide technical expertise to Purchasing on technical tooling and manufacturing-related topics.
- Provide manufacturing enhancement requirements to development engineers.
- Document required product improvements and collaborate with development engineers through closure.
- Support efficiency improvement measures within the Series Planning Department.
- Follow applicable rules, policies, and laws related to safety and security.
- Remain available for domestic and international travel, as well as occasional weekend and holiday work when required.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Maintain safe work practices, participate in safety training and programs, follow safety rules and procedures, and report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and injuries as required.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, another Engineering discipline, or a related area, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
- Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in an engineering function within a manufacturing setting.
- Experience should include strong emphasis on press shop and/or body shop equipment and project management.
- Experience with Class-A.
Required Skills
- Flexibility to support MBUSI business needs and demands.
- Knowledge of CAD systems, including Siemens NX and SMARAGD.
- Proficiency with PC applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Skills
- Ability to clearly communicate technical information, both verbally and in writing, in German and English.
- Work experience with Mercedes-Benz in product development and ramp-up phases.
- Experience leading problem-solving groups.
- Knowledge of system applications such as ZEUS, Dialog, ACM, Engineering Client, and KT-Datenbank.
Additional Information
- Domestic and international travel may be required.
- Weekend and holiday work may be required in certain cases.
