The School District of Clayton is seeking a Teacher Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. A teacher assistant provides in-class and pull-out support and works closely with classroom teachers to design, revise, teach and assess lessons. Successful candidates will be academically talented and well-versed in general fundamentals; able to gain a thorough knowledge of the enacted curriculum, able to collaborate well with others, use a variety of teaching strategies, and have the ability to recognize and respond to individual needs of students.
POSITION SUMMARY
The teacher assistant provides in-class and pull-out support and works closely with classroom teachers to design, revise, teach and assess lessons. Successful candidates will be academically talented and well-versed in general fundamentals; able to gain a thorough knowledge of the enacted curriculum, able to collaborate well with others, use a variety of teaching strategies, and have the ability to recognize and respond to individual needs of students. We are seeking child-centered teaching professionals, with a strong sense of mission, and a broad base of knowledge in pedagogy, who understand the academic, social, and emotional needs of children.
REPORTS TO: Principal
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Provides support to the classroom teacher and assists with teaching the District curriculum as outlined in the curriculum documents
- Demonstrates appropriate long and short term preparation for classroom instruction and assists with the preparation of materials that support the student’s learning
- Uses a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to assist the classroom teacher in maximizing the learning of each child, individually and in group settings
- Assists with the assessment of student progress and the use of the results to adjust instruction as needed
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested by supervising administrator(s)
- Assists with other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS – Required qualifications to effectively perform job. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience is required.
- Substitute teaching certification is required.

- Required to occasionally move objects weighing up to 25 pounds around the workspace.
- Requires travel to multiple work sites within the District using reliable, personal transportation.

Education: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Certification: Missouri Substitute Certificate required. Missouri Teaching Certificate preferred.
Experience: Preferred.
