MEPPIs Critical Power Solutions Division (CPSD) is seeking a talented and driven Design Engineer II to support the design, documentation, testing, and continuous improvement of critical power products. In this role, you will develop technical documentation, support manufacturing and testing activities, and collaborate across engineering and production teams to deliver high-quality, customer-focused solutions.
This role operates on a hybrid schedule at our headquarters in Warrendale, PA, and relocation assistance will be provided for qualified candidates.
What Youll Do
Develop Engineering Documentation: Oversee the preparation of all technical documentsincluding design drawings, purchasing specifications, Bills of Material (BOMs), and instruction books (IBs)to support order placement, manufacturing operations, and customer needs.
Provide Technical Direction: Offer design guidance and clarification to other Engineering personnel as required.
Support Customer Technical Needs: Investigate and resolve customer technical questions in a timely and professional manner.
Perform Product Testing: Write test scripts and conduct testing of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and batteries in MEPPIs power lab.
Create Product Designs: Develop BOMs and design drawings to meet customer technical requirements; coordinate designs with production, purchasing, and quality teams.
Coordinate Design Efforts: Collaborate with internal and external design teams to ensure consistency with CPSD product standards and objectives.
Develop Design Concepts: Create and refine product designs in collaboration with other engineers to meet project requirements.
Support Manufacturing & Quality: Assist Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality Assurance with resolving production or product issues.
Drive Continuous Improvement: Recommend and implement design enhancements and cost-reduction initiatives.
Lead Engineering Projects: Act as project leader for assigned design, testing, and prototype programs; coordinate prototype efforts across teams.
Collaborate with Vendors: Work with vendors to resolve technical design challenges.
Provide Field Support: Travel to customer sites or trade shows to provide product and technical support as required.
Localize Component Designs: Develop and design U.S.-based components to replace imported components where applicable.
Prepare Technical Documentation: Create instruction books and renewal parts lists to support product lifecycle management.
What You Bring
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a design engineering role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Technical Expertise:
- Intermediate knowledge of power electronics and power/energy systems, including converters and inverters
- Experience performing measurement, testing, and troubleshooting of high-power electrical equipment in lab or field environments
- Ability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings and engineering documentation
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a team environment
Technology Proficiency:
- Advanced computer skills with MS Office
- Experience with CAD tools and engineering analysis software
