Salary Range: $15.79-$21.12 (8 Steps)

 

General Description of Duties 

  • Complete daily tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Preparation and serving of food or other routine tasks normally associated with the district food service operation.
  • Assist in the planning of menus, ordering of raw food materials, storage of raw food materials, preparing the major portion of all menu and/or a la cart food items, and to carry out other management functions as required.
  • Act as a proper role model for staff and students at all times.
  • Attend required professional development activities.
  • Perform duties in a professional manner and in accordance with Mentor Exempted Village Board of Education policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned which reasonably relate to the general scope of the job description.

Essential Functions of Position 

  • Accept direction and suggestions from immediate supervisor.
  • Knowledge of the elements of nutrition as they relate to the student's development.
  • Skill in the preparation of the raw food materials for the food service area as well as maintain basic records and recipes.
  • Ability to operate all food service equipment correctly and efficiently.
  • Skill in proper food serving techniques.
  • Knowledge of the regulations and requirements for the Mentor Exempted Village School District Food Service Program.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all required reports, accounting forms, and processing forms associated with the food service operation.
  • Knowledge of the commodities program.
  • Ability to solve problems involved in central preparation, transporting, on-site preparation and serving techniques.
  • Knowledge of the proper methods to prepare, serve, and store food to insure non-contamination.
  • Ability to follow all safety standards and personal hygiene regulations related to the position.
  • Follow written directions, write legibly, and complete reports using current computer hardware and  software, if necessary.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills while working with students, parents, and staff in a positive public relations mode.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Qualities to Perform Essential Functions

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent and obtain a health certificate, if required.
  • Successful experience in school food service programs.
  • Proficiency in reading, math, oral and written communications.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
  • Must hold a current ServSafe Level I certificate or be able to obtain one within sixty (60) days of hire.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach and lift with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Some travel abilities are required.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The position requires the individual to be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints, to prioritize which needs are to be fulfilled first, interact with the public, students, and other staff, meet demands from several people, and the ability to work alone.

Education:  High School Diploma

Experience:  Selected individual shall have had prior experience in the school lunch program.  Preference will be given to the candidate who can meet the above expectations.
