Duties Description
Washington Heights Psychiatric Unit, an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited facility, is recruiting Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists to serve as the Clinical Leads of multidisciplinary treatment teams.
The selected candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary, mission-driven team at the Inwood Clinic, a state-operated community mental health clinic at Washington Heights Community Service providing comprehensive community-based mental health service for adults with serious mental illness who live in or near Northern Manhattan.
As a psychiatrist, you will provide comprehensive, patient centered and recovery focused treatments to individuals with serious mental illness 18 year of age or older; Duties will include bit not limited to:
• Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and patient admissions
• Providing psychiatric medication management
• Creating treatment plans including medication management
• Obtaining and reviewing appropriate laboratory tests and consulting with members of treatment team as needed
• Supervising Psychiatric Residents and Fellows
Minimum Qualifications
Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.
Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if they have a license and current registration to practice medicine in New York State and have certification in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
OR
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
The selected candidate will be tested for proficiency in Spanish and must pass at Level 3 proficiency to be considered for appointment. Proficiency must be at a level that will assure your ability to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position.
A background in reproductive psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and/or public psychiatry is preferred.

There are two positions available. These positions are eligible for a Downstate adjustment of $4,000.
PSYCHIATRIST 1: $256,651
PSYCHIATRIST 2: $269,202
NOTE:
1. If you are appointed and subsequently listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of these lists (or excluded from any other Federal or federally assisted program), you may be terminated from your employment.
2. If appointed you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
3. License and Certification: Loss of license or limited permit to practice medicine in New York State or board certification, if required, may result in removal from your position.
