Nonprofit Communications Specialist Job Description
Mental Health Awareness of Michiana’s mission is to improve the quality of life for those who have mental illness or mental health concerns in Michiana by eliminating stigma, promoting collaboration, and improving access to care. We do this through public and provider education classes and events, community outreach, referral assistance and through our Pro Bono Counseling Project. We are seeking a passionate and skilled Nonprofit Communications Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing our organization's visibility, raising awareness, and fostering positive relationships with the media and the public. Your work will contribute to our mission and help us make a meaningful impact.
Responsibilities:
- Social Media Strategy and Execution:
- Develop and implement effective social media strategies to share our organization's key messages and engage target audiences.
- Create compelling content for various platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
- Content Creation and Editing:
- Draft, proofread, edit, and format content for email campaigns, social media posts, newsletters, and press releases.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure consistent messaging.
- Promotional Materials:
- Brainstorm and develop print and electronic promotional materials to encourage donor engagement, improve fundraising efforts, and inspire individuals to join our volunteer programs.
- Work closely with staff to create impactful visuals, videos, and content pieces.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Measure the effectiveness of communication efforts by analyzing data related to website traffic, social media metrics, and email campaign analytics.
- Prepare reports based on acquired data to inform decision-making.
- Media Relations:
- Build and maintain a contact database of journalists, press, media outlets, and potential sponsors.
- Foster positive relationships with media representatives.
Requirements:
- Experience: 2-5 years in nonprofit communications, digital communications, marketing, project management, or related roles.
- Education: A degree in Marketing, Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field.
- Skills:
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Familiarity with managing webinars and live events on social media platforms.
- Knowledge of tools like Google Ads or Google Analytics is a plus.
- Bilingual Spanish/ English fluency a plus
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 per week
