DefinitionProviding peer support services to mental health consumers in an LTSR for the purpose of promoting growth, recovery, and wellness.II. Duties1. The CPS will serve as a consumer advocate.2. Provide information and support for consumers at the LTSR.3. They will assist consumers with a wide variety services.4. They will help identify goals.5. They will provide information on public services, educational opportunities and vocational skills.6. Facilitate groups on a weekly basis.7. The CPS will be available to work evenings and weekendsIII. Required/Recommended Skills1. Must be a prior or current mental health consumer with the ability to role model recovery and establish trusting relationships with peers and staff2. Must be able to provide own transportation to/from work setting and travel off site when required3. Must either possess a valid PA driver’s license or have ability to obtain a valid PA driver’s license4. Must possess the ability to work with people in a team setting5. Must have excellent communication skills in order to communicate in a positive and effective manner with Consumers and Staff6. Must have proficient documentation skills to meet regulatory/funder requirements7. Must participate in weekly treatment team and monthly interagency meetingsIV. Educational and Background Requirements1. A CPS must have successfully completed the 2 week DHS/OMHSAS approved Certified Peer Specialist Training and complete 75 hours of peer training and pass the PCB exam.2. The CPS will be required to complete an additional 18 hours of training annually, 12 of those hours must focus on peer support and/or recovery practices.
