Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Nassau County NY, for a CORE Peer Empowerment Specialist. The specialist will provide peer support and guidance to individuals navigating their mental health journey, utilizing personal experience to foster understanding and build trust. Responsibilities include facilitating individual and group support sessions, assisting participants in identifying and achieving their goals, and providing resources to help access mental health and community services. The role also involves collaboration with other care providers, documentation of activities, and participation in community outreach efforts.
Qualifications
- Experience with peer support and recovery-focused practices, utilizing lived experience with mental health challenges and recovery
- Strong ability to build trust, foster empowerment, and maintain empathy while supporting individuals
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Basic knowledge of mental health services, local community resources, and the ability to navigate the available support systems
- Organizational and time management skills to document activities and meet role requirements
- Completion of or eligibility for peer specialist certification is preferred
- Familiarity with computer applications such as Microsoft Office and data entry software
- A high school diploma or equivalent; additional training or education in mental health or social services is advantageous
