Creative Recovery Peer Specialist & Frame Shop Assistant

9Muses Art Center is seeking a creative, compassionate, and community-minded individual to join our team as a Creative Recovery Peer Specialist & Frame Shop Assistant. This grant-funded position supports the expansion of visual and performing arts opportunities for adults living with mental health and substance use challenges.
We strongly encourage applications from Certified Recovery Peer Specialists (CRPS), peer support professionals, college students pursuing degrees in fine arts, and individuals with lived experience in recovery who are willing to share their story to inspire hope and empowerment in others.

9Muses Art Center is a peer-driven drop-in center and program of Mental Health America of Southeast Florida. Located in Fort Lauderdale, the center provides free behavioral health support services and a wide range of visual and performing arts opportunities to adults with mental health and substance use disorders. Our center includes a fully functioning fine arts and ceramics studio where members can explore creativity, healing, and self-expression.

Position Overview:
This position blends creative arts instruction, peer support, and hands-on frame shop experience within a recovery-focused arts environment. Priority consideration is given to applicants with lived experience in recovery and a passion for using the arts to support wellness and community connection.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide beginner and intermediate art instruction in mediums such as acrylics, watercolor, graphite, pastels, ceramics, and mixed media
- Assist with visual and performing arts programming including music, theater, and creative expression groups
- Work collaboratively with staff to develop curriculum and monthly activity calendars
- Support members in a compassionate, recovery-oriented environment
- Conduct guest tours and assist with maintaining member applications and participation records
- Work with the Studio Manager to catalog artwork and maintain artist records, bios, and releases
- Assist with gallery exhibits including framing, labels, manifests, installation, and hanging
- Wait on customers and take orders for the 9Muses Frame Shop
- Assist with custom framing, beveled mat cutting, glass cutting, artwork mounting, and frame assembly
- Maintain inventory and organize art and framing supplies
- Participate in wellness and consumer support activities and cross-training opportunities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Lived experience in mental health and/or substance use recovery with willingness to appropriately share your recovery story
- CRPS certification preferred but not required for all applicants
- Background in fine arts, performing arts, arts education, or related field
- College students pursuing degrees in Fine Arts, Art Education, Theater, Music, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply
- Experience with framing, mat cutting, glass cutting, or gallery installation preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Computer literacy with Office 365 products including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and SharePoint
- Reliable transportation required
Accountability:
This position reports directly to the 9Muses Studio Manager and Adult Services Director.
