Duties
- Assist residents and patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using proper manual handling techniques and equipment like Hoyer lifts.
- Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates, ensuring accurate medical documentation within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Support medication administration processes under supervision, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Observe and report any changes in health status or behavior, including signs of dementia or infectious disease symptoms, to nursing staff promptly.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to residents with memory care needs or behavioral health conditions like Alzheimer's disease or other dementias.
- Assist with patient transfers using safe transfer methods and equipment; ensure adherence to aseptic techniques during all procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by following infection control protocols, proper disposal of medical waste, and adhering to safety practices for heavy lifting and safe patient handling.
Requirements
- Current certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in good standing with relevant state licensing requirements.
- Prior experience working in long-term care facilities, hospitals, assisted living communities, or home care environments is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, vital signs measurement, and basic life support (BLS/CPR).
- Experience working with geriatric patients or individuals with disabilities such as developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs is advantageous.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using proper techniques; comfort with manual handling equipment such as Hoyer lifts.
- Strong communication skills for caregiving interactions and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams while maintaining patient confidentiality per HIPAA standards.
