Teacher - Deaf & Hard of Hearing

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Possess a valid California Special Education Teaching Credential authorizing teaching of the deaf or hard-of-hearing (i.e., Education Specialist – Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing; Specialist – Communication Handicapped; Standard Teaching Credential, Restricted Special Education Credential or Limited Specialized Preparation Credential in Deaf and Severely Hard-of-Hearing; Special Secondary Credential in either Deaf or Lip Reading; or Exceptional Children Credential – Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing) or be eligible to enroll in a university intern program by meeting the following requirements: * A Bachelor of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university * Passing scores on a core subject-matter exam* • A Master of Arts Degree with an emphasis in special education preferred; • Three (3) years of successful teaching experience working with a wide range of age groups and handicapping conditions preferred; • Possess or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver's License; • Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties safely and effectively, including lifting fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of fifty (50) pounds with assistance. * Candidates who have only a BA may be employed on a Provisional Internship Permit to allow time to pass a subject-matter exam in order to enroll in a university intern program. BENEFITS Employees are provided with an insurance plan, which includes health, vision, and dental insurance for employee, spouse, and dependents, at a shared cost. Participation in this plan is mandatory for employees working 35 plus hours a week. Employee will be a member of the State Teachers’ Retirement System (STRS) and may elect to be a member of the Mendocino County Federation of School Employees Union.
