The Mendocino County Office of Education is a public agency whose primary purpose is to provide educational leadership, resources and services to schools to ensure wide-ranging educational opportunities for all students. This mission is accomplished through cooperative efforts with teachers, school districts, families, and communities; through direct instructional programs and administrative services; and through coordination with the California Department of Education and other agencies.

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, plan, organize and direct the services of the Special Education Department; assist in the development and implementation of the Special Education budget; direct and supervise certificated and classified staff, as assigned; develop, implement and monitor special projects assigned; provide responsible and professional staff assistance and management of Special Education services and activities. Collaborate with other department leads to implement an integrated service delivery model to support districts.

Requirements / Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Possess a valid School Administrative Services Credential; • Possess an appropriate California Teaching Credential or Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Psychology; • Five (5) years or classroom teaching; • Five (5) years or more of comprehensive and directly related progressive experience. • A Master of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in special education or closely related field is highly desired; • Possess or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver License; • Provide proof of automobile insurability; • Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties safely and effectively, including lifting fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of fifty (50) pounds with assistance. MCOE does not participate in the Social Security system.
