Incumbent works independently and is responsible to the Invasive Cardiology MIT supervisor and the Chief, Cardiology Section. This position supports the clinical and administrative components of Cardiology testing.

a) Experience. At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level (GS-8), which is directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. This would be experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge required in order to provide all aspects of cardiac catheterization technician services. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*):
(b) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. KSAs 1, 2, and 3 are appropriate for all positions at this level. KSAs 4 and 5 are to be used in accordance with their appropriateness for the specific assignment.
Preferred Experience: Previous Cath Lab experience in Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology (EP)

Responsibilities:
Performs special/invasive procedures and exams for the patients of this medical center within the cardiology section. Examinations include, but are not limited to: cardiac catheterizations, percutaneous coronary interventions, coronary stent placement, coronary atherectomy, coronary flowevaluation, TAVR & valvuloplasty, fluoroscopic imaging, intravascular coronary ultrasound, ventriculography, electrophysiology testing, radiofrequency ablation, endomyocardial biopsy, temporary and permanent pacemaker implantation, automated cardioverter-defibrillator implantation, swan Ganz catheter placement, pericardiocentesis, tilt table testing, transesophageal testing, renal, carotid, iliac, visceraland peripheral angiography, and venograms interventional radiography.The incumbent will also:- Perform duties of those of a Medical Instrument Technologist in the Cardiac Catherization Suite and sometimes in the Operating Room during procedures such as diagnostic cardiac catherization, balloon angioplasties, Electrophysiology Studies, Device implantation, Ablation procedures, TAVR and valvuloplasties. The incumbent may also be required to perform those duties anywhere else in the hospital where such procedures are performed.
- Share weekend and afterhours "on-call" responsibilities/schedules with other MITs for emergency and after-hours procedure. Will be required to arrive at the hospital within 30-45 minutes of being called whenever on-call.
- Assist in the performance of advanced invasive testing and radiological imaging in an all-encompassing cardiac testing including the EP laboratory.
- Set up Cath tray, manifold, preparation of patients, operation and maintenance and recording of hemodynamic data using a specialized multichannel, multifunctional electronic recorder.
- Help with coordinating, supervising, as well as operating and monitoring diagnostic/intervention instruments and equipment associated with cardiac testing.
- Assist with preparation and operation of various other equipment using in obtaining physiologic measurements in the Cardiac Catherization Suite and sometimes in the Operating Room such as cardiac pressure transducers, thermodilution cardiac output computers, blood gas oximeters and oxygen consumption computers. The incumbent may also be required to perform those duties anywhere else in the hospital where such procedures are performed.
- Operate fluoroscopic equipment used in angiographic testing
- Measurement and analysis of cardiac electrocardiogram waveforms
- Identification and analysis of electrocardiogram intervals, segments, and complexes
- Application of oxygen therapy and analysis of pulse oximetric measurement
- Intravenous access for IV therapy and phlebotomy sampling
- Performance and analysis of standard 12 lead electrocardiogram
- Data input, editing and analysis of the Hemodynamic Monitoring Unit
- Data input, troubleshooting, and analysis of the digital X-ray Unit
- Performance of non-invasive blood pressure measurements with the identification of normal/abnormal
- values.
- The incumbent must be able to differentiate "acceptable rhythms" and "reportable rhythms" i.e. a controlled atrial fibrillation rate and a fast R to R rate that warrants intervention/admission to the ICU or Emergency Room.
- Operation of a variety of medical equipment including video equipment, CD archiving system, ECHO archiving system, contrast media injectors, EKG recorders, pressure transducers, intra-aortic balloon pumps, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) machine, flow wires (FFR), Rotablator unit, Dash portable monitors, EP monitoring station, EP mapping unit, oxygen equipment, suction equipment, CD recording units, defibrillators (Life Pack), Bovie cautery unit, power injectors, TEE and any additional equipment used in Cardiology.
- The incumbent will be able to transfer patients from stretcher or wheelchair to radiographic table.
