Performs strategic compensation initiatives and completes compensation projects for the district to include resolving unusually complex problems and providing solutions that are highly innovative. The incumbent delivers high quality work and ensures that compensation structures are equitable, competitive, fiscally responsible, and aligned with the district's mission and recruitment and retention strategies. The Senior Compensation Advisor serves as a senior resource for the compensation department.

  • Responds to customer requests for compensation services including salary determinations, job and equity reviews, job descriptions, market analysis, etc. in accordance with Compensation policies and procedures.
  • Serves as lead on large scale projects such as designing, implementing, and maintaining pay plans, or departmental reorganizations utilizing a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.
  • Develops financial models that forecast the cost of compensation plans over time.
  • Participates in the design and modification of the job and pay classification system.
  • Participates in the administration of specialized pay plans, cost of living increases or union pay plans.
  • Develops efficient and accurate systems to determine compensation for each employee in new systems and assists with developing policies, processes and procedures to maintain compensation administration for the job classification(s).
  • Advises Talent Management/Staffing on such compensation related issues as new hire analysis, salary offers, promotions and/or transfers.
  • Provides expertise and guidance on all compensation related topics such as job analysis, salary studies, career pathways, etc. to define issues, identify options and implement creative and equitable solutions to address customer concerns and/or issues.
  • Conducts complex salary and job data collection and analysis to produce reports and graphs in completing salary reviews and other projects utilizing spreadsheets and other statical tools.
  • Serves as a resource to management on compensation issues, trends, and/or best practices; performs analysis and recommends changes and/or improvements.
  • Collaborates with the Performance Management team to determine the appropriate timeline to implement pay programs.
  • Performs job analyses and documents job content to assist managers with the development or revision of job functions.
  • Prepares, revises and edits job descriptions and job templates for content, format and consistency.
  • Evaluates and determines the exemption status of individual jobs for compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
  • Stays abreast of current and potential laws and regulations governing compensation administration to ensure legal compliance.
  • Conducts and/or participates in custom and published salary surveys for reliable and valid benchmarked data.
  • Serves as back-up in the absence of the Compensation Manager in addressing compensation procedural issues and/or technical issues.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.


Bachelor’s Degree in Public or Business Administration, Human Resources or a closely related field plus a minimum of five (5) years of compensation experience to include job analysis, salary reviews, market studies, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and compensation experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position. OR a combination of equivalent education and/or paid, exempt level, directly relevant compensation experience for a total of nine (9) years. Master’s Degree in Public or Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field or equivalent is preferred. Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Professional Human Resources (PHR), Six Sigma and/or International Professional Management Association (IPMA-CP) certifications preferred.

Degree Equivalency Formula

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree = 6 years plus required years of experience.

The salary range is $73,462.40/yr. minimum to $105,665.50/yr. maximum.
