Position Summary
The Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator provide strategic leadership in curriculum/ instructional practices, and teacher development across The Goodwill Excel Center Memphis Network. This role provides supportive innovative, student-centered instruction tailored to adult learners pursuing their high school diploma while ensuring alignment with Tennessee academic standards are met and ongoing content specifically professional development is administered for licensure to all teachers.
Function:
The Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the alignment, and continuous improvement of instructional practices across The Excel Center Memphis network. This role supports high-quality teaching and learning by providing targeted, data-driven professional development and ongoing coaching to lead teachers and instructional staff. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Academics, the Coordinator serves as the central academic resource across campuses, ensuring consistency in curriculum implementation, strengthening instructional capacity, and promoting student achievement through effective, research-based practices. Carries out other essential responsibilities and performance objectives as directed by the Executive Director of Academics.
Essential Responsibilities
Curriculum Development & Alignment
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of standards-aligned curriculum
- Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum to maintain consistency across classrooms and campuses
- Ensure curriculum reflects The Excel Center’s competency-based and adult learning model
- Collaborate with leadership to align instruction with college and career readiness pathways
Instructional Leadership and Coaching
- Provide direct coaching and professional development to lead teachers and instructional staff
- Support lead teachers in implementing effective, student-centered instructional practices
- Model high-quality instructional strategies and facilitate demonstration lessons when needed
- Monitor instructional practices and provide actionable feedback to improve teaching and learning
- Student Success Seminar Instructors will report directly to the Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator.
Data Analysis & Instructional Improvement
- Analyze student achievement data to guide instructional adjustments and strategies needed
- identify gaps and implement targeted interventions
- Support teachers in using data to differentiate instruction and improve outcomes
- Monitor academic progress and provides updates and instructional recommendations to school leadership
- Monitors and tracks Diagnostic testing trends and data across all Student Success Seminar programs and network.
Professional Development
- Design and facilitate ongoing, job-embedded professional development
- Support onboarding and mentoring of new instructional staff; including interviewing and job shadowing/peer teacher collaboration
- Lead collaborative planning sessions and curriculum reviews
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and instructional excellence
Program Implementation, Fidelity, & Compliance
- Ensure instructional practices meet network, state, district, and organizational requirements
- Supports the implementation of curriculum across all assigned schools
- Conducts regular classroom observations and curriculum audits
- Develop tools and systems to monitor pacing, lesson delivery, and instructional quality
- Support schools in maintaining alignment between lesson plans and classroom instruction
- Ensures Student Success Seminar program compliance, data and validity.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required, master’s degree in education, curriculum & instruction design, or related field strongly preferred.
- Active professional state-issued Tennessee Teaching/Instructional license.
- At minimum 5 years of successful teaching experience in classroom, collegiate or related academic environment required.
- Instructional coaching, curriculum design, or leadership experience are strongly preferred.
- Experience working with adult or non-traditional learners is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with people from varied cultural, academic, and economic backgrounds.
