Mission Contribution:
To ensure efficient and effective transportation operations resulting in increased profit and mission fulfillment.
Function:
Under the leadership of the Senior Director of Transportation & Logistics; the Dock Supervisor is responsible for managing forklift training, hazmat coordination and driver training shift while maintaining the department standards for safety, quality, efficiency, cost, service and delivery, training and development and housekeeping.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Manages and assigns tasks to employees in the area to ensure proper utilization and development of the team members while meeting customer expectations.
- Closely works with the Dock Supervisor and Director of Logistics Operations & Post Retail Sales Manager
- Provide analyses, suggestions and ideas for the improvement of operations within the shift, department and facility.
- Provides feedback to employees on a continual basis.
- Ensures that 100% of trailers are loaded correctly to ensure safe transport of freight.
- Inspects trailers throughout the day for cleanliness and ensures correct loading/unloading techniques are being used.
- Makes quick and informed decisions based on the volume levels and communicates schedules to affected employees.
- Inspects working conditions of tools and equipment needed for safe operation within the area and directs the correction of any improper or adverse condition that exists.
- Completes forklift job training knowledge and uses a forklift as necessary within the service center to include:
o Prepare and conduct technical training.
o Assess training needs and certification requirements.
o Travel to field locations and assess safety/technical training application of employees.
o Keep training materials up to date, follow policies, regulations, and procedures.
o Develop, implement and deliver training schedules and programs to build operation proficiency.
o Create, modify and maintain SOPs.
- Hazmat coordination to include:
o Prepare site for hazardous materials removal and disposal, including containment.
o Remove or encapsulate hazardous materials in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations.
o Post appropriate signs to warn facility users of potential hazards.
o Keep required records of work performed.
- 12. Truck driver training to include:
o Evaluate performance of driver.
o Travel with drivers on routes to assist in proper methods of loading and unloading.
- 13. In addition to the duties listed above, the employee is expected to perform other duties as assigned by management and adhere to all company policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Able to bend, reach and stand for extensive periods of time
Able to lift up to sixty pounds on a regular basis
May be required to lift heavier goods/items with the assistance of another team member
Must be able to stoop, squat, bend, stretch, lift arms and do repetitive motion
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Dock, Warehouse and Office settings
Subject to varying and extreme temperatures, changes and weather conditions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong geographical knowledge of Memphis & surrounding areas
Sound verbal communication skills
Familiarity with computers in a Windows based environment
Self-starter with strong organizational and customer service skills
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
High School Diploma, GED or College degree
Previous supervisory experience preferred
