Job Summary

Preschool Assistant Teacher (GSRP Classroom)

Position Title: Preschool Assistant Teacher – GSRP Classroom
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Employment Period: August through May (School Year Position)
Reports To: Preschool Director and Lead Teacher

Position Summary

The Preschool Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool children enrolled in the preschool. The Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with the lead teacher to implement daily activities, support children's social-emotional growth, and maintain compliance with GSRP, licensing, and program requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential in Preschool.
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children preferred.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to meet all state licensing requirements, including background checks and required trainings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities.
  • Support children's learning through play, exploration, and teacher-guided experiences.
  • Foster a positive classroom environment that promotes social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
  • Supervise children at all times to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, organization, and cleanup.
  • Support children with daily routines, including handwashing, meals, toileting, and transitions.
  • Observe and document children's progress as directed by the Lead Teacher.
  • Help maintain accurate classroom records and documentation required by GSRP and licensing regulations.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with families and staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required training opportunities.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Follow all program policies, licensing regulations, health and safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to actively engage with young children both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to respond quickly to children's needs and emergencies.

Compensation is based on education, experience, and program budget.
