La Joya ISD seeks a committed and motivated leader to serve as Middle School Baseball Coach at Memorial Middle School. WHY MEMORIAL MIDDLE SCHOOL
Memorial Middle School plays a critical role in the development of student-athletes by building the foundation for future success at the high school level. The middle school baseball program is an important part of the athletic pipeline and serves as a key feeder into Palmview High School Baseball. This position offers the opportunity to shape young athletes through instruction, leadership, and a commitment to excellence.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate preferred
- Valid CPR and First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain
Experience:
- Coaching experience at the middle school or high school level preferred
- Experience playing baseball preferred
- Experience working with adolescent students in athletics or school settings preferred
Special Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of baseball fundamentals, rules, and player development
- Ability to teach and develop foundational baseball skills appropriate for middle school athletes
- Understanding of UIL, district, and campus athletic expectations
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community
- Commitment to safety, supervision, and student character development
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Athletic Program Leadership
- Develop and implement a strong middle school baseball program focused on fundamentals, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship
- Teach core baseball skills including throwing, fielding, hitting, base running, and game awareness
- Create practice plans that are age-appropriate, organized, and aligned to program goals
- Foster a competitive and positive team culture that emphasizes effort, accountability, and growth
- Support the development of student-athletes as they transition into the Palmview High School baseball feeder system
- Collaborate with district and high school coaching staff to ensure vertical alignment in philosophy and skill development
- Identify and develop student talent while promoting participation and inclusion
Student Development
- Model and teach character, leadership, responsibility, and sportsmanship
- Maintain high expectations for student behavior, academic progress, and team commitment
- Monitor athlete eligibility, attendance, and academic standing in collaboration with campus staff
- Encourage student-athletes to take pride in representing Memorial Middle School and La Joya ISD
Compliance and Safety
- Ensure compliance with UIL, TEA, district, and campus policies and procedures
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and related activities
- Maintain safe practices and proper use of equipment and facilities
- Follow all district expectations related to safety protocols, emergency procedures, and student supervision
- Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and other required certifications
Communication and Community Engagement
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, administrators, and fellow coaches
- Promote positive relationships with families and stakeholders in support of the baseball program
- Represent Memorial Middle School and La Joya ISD with professionalism and integrity at all times
- Support campus and district athletic events, meetings, and initiatives as assigned
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in campus and district professional development and meetings
- Work collaboratively with the principal, athletic coordinator, and coaching staff to support athletic department goals
- Uphold district values and expectations in all professional responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records related to rosters, equipment, schedules, and student participation

Work Environment:
- Outdoor athletic fields, gyms, locker rooms, classrooms, and school facilities
- Evening and weekend duties for games, practices, and events may be required
- Travel with student-athletes for competitions and related activities may be required
