Description

Journeys program provides 20 leased units of permanent supportive housing to households who are unhoused and between the ages of 18-24 at intake. Program staff support tenants in building skills needed to maintain a lease and live independently, as well as supporting tenants working toward self-identified goals and helping tenants build a support network outside of Cocoon House. The Education & Employment Case Manager, internally referred to as the Journeys Education & Employment Case Manager, works with tenants to maintain housing and build skills to support stability throughout adulthood. The Case Manager supports tenants in setting and progressing toward goals in various domains including basic needs, life skills, education, employment, health, mental health, and substance use. Tenants are not required to utilize case management services, so the ideal case manager will bring creativity and thoughtfulness to the role to encourage tenants to participate in skill building and other services – either formal or informal.

The Education & Employment Case Manager plays a crucial role in supporting residents’ education and employment-based goals through workshops, resource connection, and direct support. The Case Manager will work collaboratively with residents and staff to empower young adults to make informed decisions about their education and employment pathways, and develop skills to support their goals and stability. May have to change this to accommodate current schedule This position works Sunday-Thursday 11:00 am-9:00pm, the role requires flexibility, at least one weekend day and some earlier days as needed.

Education & Employment Case Manager Duties & Responsibilities

Full-Time (Sunday-Thursday)| On-site in Everett, Snohomish County

Starting Wages: $22-23/hr depending on shift | $1.50/hr pay differential for multi-lingual skills with additional paperwork

  • Assist tenants in maintaining housing, including support around following a lease and maintaining units
  • Provide client-driven case management by supporting tenants in setting and working toward goals and skill development with emphasis on independent living skills, meeting lease requirements, and building external support networks
  • Conduct assessments of outcomes and goals at entry, during, and exit for each tenant. Complete all required paperwork and data entry on-time, accurately, and in compliance with internal and external database standards.
  • Collaborate with Second Case Manager to provide community events, tenant council, and life skill activities for tenants at least twice a month.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with residents while providing a supportive community environment.
  • Complete daily log notes to ensure consistent and clear communication between staff.
  • Attend meetings as required at program, agency, and community levels.
  • Maintain tenant confidentiality in all activities.
  • Perform light cleaning duties in communal areas, including but limited to: vacuuming, sweeping/mopping, and trash removal.
  • Individualized Education & Employment Planning:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify residents’ educational levels, career interests, and skill gaps
  • Develop personalized education and employment plans, outlining realistic goals and action steps
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance, monitoring progress and adjusting plans as needed
  • Educational Support:
  • Assist residents in exploring educational options, including GED preparation, vocational training, and college enrollment
  • Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate opportunities for informational sessions from various educational institutes both on-site and off-site
  • Employment Support:
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and/or schedule {Weekly/Monthly} workshops and training sessions on essential job skills, including resume writing, interview techniques, job search strategies, and other relevant topics
  • Provide one-on-one coaching to enhance life skills such as communication, problem-solving, organization, and time-management skills
  • Coordinate access to computer labs, libraries, and online resources for job searching and skill development
  • Support financial literacy education with residents to learn basic financial skills, budget creation, and how to maintain healthy financial habits
  • Resource Connection & Advocacy:
  • Maintain an up-to-date resource directory of educational institutions, employment agencies, and community support services
  • Provide guidance and resource connection for support in completing applications, securing financial aid, and accessing tutoring services
  • Assist residents with accessing transportation, childcare, and other resources necessary for their education and employment goals
  • Advocate for residents’ rights and needs with employers and educational institutions
  • Seek out and build relationships with new community partners

Requirements

General:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Dedication to advocating for and working with individuals experiencing homelessness and instability.
  • Applicants with lived experience strongly encouraged to apply
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet client needs, including working the occasional weekend or evening
  • Open commitment to serving, supporting, accepting and collaborating with individuals of all races, ages, genders, backgrounds, political opinions and beliefs, sexual orientations, criminal histories, citizenship or marital statuses and religious beliefs.

  • High school diploma/GED or high school equivalency
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • 1 year minimum of experience working with youth or young adults experiencing homelessness
  • DCYF background clearance
  • Acceptable driver's abstract with no more than 2 violations within last 3 years
  • Possess a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation

Physical

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all internal and external clients
  • Be able to hear voices and alarms.
  • Ability to read and comprehend a variety of materials
  • Ability to operate phone, computer, and record information for files and logs
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 Ibs
  • Must have ability to run up and down indoor and outdoor stairwells in case of youth emergency.
  • Go up and down stairs
