What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist position at Memorial Community Hospital and Health System?
Memorial Community Hospital & Health System is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Phlebotomist / Lab Assistant to join our Laboratory team. In this role, you will perform inpatient and outpatient specimen collection, specimen processing, microbiology setup, waived testing, drug and alcohol screening collections, and a variety of laboratory support functions. This position is ideal for a motivated professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced healthcare environment and delivering exceptional patient care.
What You’ll Do:
- Hours of the position are Monday-Friday 10:00am - 6:30pm
- Performs inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy procedures, specimen processing, clerical duties, microbiology set-up, reference lab preparation and collection of drug and alcohol screens.
- Processes specimens and completes the proper paperwork for laboratory testing for both in-house and reference lab testing.
- Performs waived testing and QC for waived testing under the supervision of the Department Manager.
- Monitors and documents equipment and environmental temperatures.
- Orders, receives, and takes inventory of supplies.
- Strong interpersonal skills required for communicating with patients, medical staff, and employees.
What You’ll Need:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Current BLS certification required within 90 days of employment.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred.
- At least 1 year laboratory experience preferred.
