Position Summary
The Financial Counselor, Loan Review & Community Education Specialist plays a key role in supporting member financial success and strengthening community connections. This position provides personalized financial counseling, conducts loan reviews to ensure quality and compliance, and leads financial education initiatives in the community. This role works closely with the Marketing Brand Ambassador to promote financial literacy and enhance the Credit Union’s presence.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Counseling & Member Support
- Provide one-on-one financial counseling, including budgeting, debt management, credit improvement, and savings strategies
- Help members understand loan products, credit reports, and available financial options
- Identify member needs and recommend appropriate Credit Union products and services
- Build trusted relationships while maintaining strict confidentiality
Loan Review & Support
- Conduct post-closing loan reviews to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with Credit Union policies
- Analyze credit reports, income, and debt obligations to support sound lending decisions
- Collaborate with lending staff to assess member financial situations and repayment capacity
- Identify potential risk factors and recommend appropriate loan structures or alternatives
- Support overall loan portfolio quality through periodic reviews and follow-up
Financial Education & Program Development
- Develop and deliver financial literacy workshops, seminars, and educational materials
- Create engaging content tailored to diverse audiences, including youth and families
- Support both in-branch and digital financial education initiatives
Community Outreach & Engagement
- Partner with local schools to provide age-appropriate financial education programs
- Represent the Credit Union at community events and outreach opportunities
- Build relationships with community organizations to expand financial education efforts
Collaboration & Brand Support
- Work closely with the Marketing Brand Ambassador to align messaging and outreach efforts
- Assist in promoting financial education through social media, events, and marketing campaigns
- Support initiatives that strengthen the Credit Union’s brand and community impact
Qualifications
- Experience in financial counseling, banking, credit union operations, or education preferred
- Strong knowledge of personal finance topics (budgeting, credit, loans, savings, etc.)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to engage and educate diverse audiences
- Passion for community involvement and financial literacy
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends for events
