We are seeking an entry‑level Buyer with some hands‑on purchasing experience to support our growing operations. This role is ideal for someone who understands industrial materials, parts, or services and is ready to grow their career in supply chain management within a manufacturing and service‑driven environment.
Position Summary
The Buyer is responsible for purchasing materials, components, parts, and services necessary to support Mellott Company’s operations, projects, and field service teams. This role works closely with engineering, operations, warehouse, and suppliers to ensure timely, cost‑effective, and accurate procurement in alignment with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Procure materials, parts, subcontracts, and services in support of manufacturing, fabrication, service, and field operations.
- Issue purchase orders and manage them through fulfillment in the ERP system.
- Maintain accurate pricing, lead times, and supplier data.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to understand technical requirements and delivery needs.
- Monitor open orders, follow up with suppliers, and expedite as necessary to meet project and customer demands.
- Support inventory replenishment and MRO purchasing activities.
- Assist in supplier communications, RFQs, and basic price comparisons.
- Resolve receiving discrepancies, invoicing issues, and supplier performance concerns.
- Maintain purchasing documentation and support audits or internal reviews.
- Follow established procurement policies and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Minimum 1–3 years of purchasing or supply chain experience in a manufacturing, industrial, equipment, or service environment.
- Basic understanding of industrial components such as:
- Mechanical parts
- Bearings, belts, fasteners
- Hydraulics and electrical components (preferred)
- Fabricated parts or services
- Ability to read and understand part descriptions, BOMs, or basic technical drawings.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in an ERP system (IFS experience a plus).
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Effective communication skills with internal teams and external suppliers.
Preferred:
- Experience supporting heavy equipment, aggregates, mining, construction, or industrial machinery.
- Exposure to MRO, fabricated components, or subcontracted services.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field.
