What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Services Associate position at Melissa Memorial Hospital?
Full time position with schedule flexibility including rotating weekends and holidays.
JOB SUMMARY:
We seek a team member to perform Environmental Services and cleaning activities within well established guidelines and assigned areas and shift(s) to ensure high quality standards, safety guidelines, and customer service expectations are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Cleans floors in assigned areas using a variety of tools including vacuums, dry mops, wet mops, brooms and disinfects/cleaners.
- Operates floor equipment including carpet extractor, burnisher, and light duty floor scrubber.
- Cleans bathrooms in assigned areas. Cleans and disinfects sinks, mirrors, pipes, commode tank, bowl, and base; then all fixtures, floors, and walls as directed. Replenishes bathroom supplies.
- Cleans surfaces daily or as required, removing dust, dirt, or greasy film, using disinfectants where necessary.
- Cleans walls, windows, doors, and ceilings. Spot cleans between washings, washes, disinfects when necessary.
- Picks up trash and linen daily.
- Restocks linens as needed within the assigned area.
- Performs cleaning duties according to established procedures.
- Reports observations concerning structural and equipment wear, defects and malfunctions to supervisor.
- Reports supply and equipment needs to supervisor for replenishing.
- Maintains equipment used in performing duties.
- Relieves laundry personnel as scheduled or on a PRN basis.
- Ensures that established sanitation and safety standards are maintained.
- Interacts appropriately with patients, visitors, other personnel, supervisor, and the public.
- Complies with industry and federal and state guidelines, and meets the needs of the facility.
- Must respond to the paging system in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Follows infection control and universal precautions policies and procedures to ensure that a sanitary environment is maintained at all times. Follows proper reporting, isolation, and hand washing procedures/techniques.
Working Conditions/Physical Environment:
- Noise level-moderately quiet, except when operating equipment.
- Exposed to odors.
- Twisting, bending, and reaching from floor to waist height and from waist to chest level.
- Must be on constant alert for possible injuries to patients.
- Must be able to work around cleaning products and chemicals.
- Most of the job is performed while standing and walking.
- Lifting and carrying a maximum weight of 30 lbs.
- Pushing and pulling a maximum weight of 50 lbs.
*In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon MMH needs or requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to recognize hazards and follow appropriate protective equipment measures, read and understand MSDS sheets, and communicate with coworkers as to such.
- Ability to cooperate with other employees.
- Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis.
- Must be able to accomplish all responsibilities without supervision or other employee assistance after the training period is completed and do so without injury to oneself or other individuals.
- Highschool diploma or equivalent
PREFERRED:
- Bilingual

MELISSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL: Melissa Memorial Hospital is a 15-bed critical access hospital, located in Holyoke, Colorado. While being “rural” we are equipped for any situation. It is a model rural hospital with 1 operating room, surgical procedure room, 4 bay emergency room, and radiology including 64-slice CT scanner and mammography, MRI, ECHO, and Nuclear Medicine, along with other ancillary services. The hospital is co-located with a family practice clinic and retail pharmacy services. Other services include chemotherapy, general & orthopedic surgery, podiatry, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, progressive rehab services, and wound care. MMH operates a full-time EMS service and maintains a 24/7 AirLife Helicopter base.
