What are the responsibilities and job description for the People & Culture Generalist position at Mel Trotter Ministries?
Our Mission
Mel Trotter Ministries is a faith-based nonprofit organization committed to providing safe shelter and supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness. We strive to create a structured, respectful environment where every person is treated with dignity, compassion, and care.
Our work is rooted in consistency, accountability, and Christ-centered service. By meeting immediate needs while helping people move toward long-term stability, we seek to make a lasting impact in the lives of those we serve. Through collaboration and a shared sense of purpose, our team works together each day to advance that mission.
Your HR Home Base
As our People & Culture Generalist, you'll work alongside the People & Culture team to help create a consistent, supportive employee experience from recruitment through development and retention. Reporting to the SVP of People & Culture, you'll own key responsibilities while partnering with leaders across the organization to strengthen HR operations, employee development, and engagement.
Key responsibilities include supporting staff training initiatives, coordinating employee feedback efforts, and facilitating stay and exit interviews. You'll also collaborate on performance management, recruitment, employee relations, workplace investigations, and compensation reviews. In addition, you'll help identify and pursue grant funding opportunities for training and workforce development while maintaining compliance and documentation requirements.
Beyond your day-to-day responsibilities, you'll have opportunities to improve processes, contribute ideas, and help strengthen the systems and experiences that support our employees across the organization.
A Typical Rhythm
You'll start your day by diving into your priorities, checking messages, and making progress on your current projects. Throughout the day, you'll collaborate with members of the People & Culture team as initiatives overlap, partnering on recruiting, training, employee engagement, documentation, and process improvements while also owning work that's uniquely yours.
Some days you'll be coordinating interviews or supporting training initiatives. Other days you'll be organizing records, tracking grant-related documentation, assisting with employee relations matters, or improving internal processes. Every day brings a different mix of priorities, offering the opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively while helping move meaningful work forward in support of our mission.
