What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marketing and Communications Coordinator position at Mel Trotter Ministries?
Who We Are
Mel Trotter Ministries is a faith-based, nonprofit organization committed to providing safe shelter and supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness. We work to create a structured, respectful environment where each person is treated with dignity and care.
Our approach is rooted in compassion, consistency, and accountability, with a focus on meeting immediate needs while supporting long-term stability. Through collaboration and a shared sense of purpose, our team works each day to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve.
What You’ll Do
As our part-time, on-site Marketing and Communications Coordinator, you’ll work under the direction of the Marketing Manager to keep projects moving and details buttoned up. This role exists to provide steady project, production, vendor, and administrative support so the Marketing & Communications team can deliver campaigns and daily requests accurately and on schedule.
Key responsibilities include:
- Tracking project workflows, timelines, assets, and approvals
- Supporting internal communications and marketing resources
- Handling routine ordering, fulfillment, and inventory of recurring materials
- Assisting with donor receipting, mailings, and confidential donor information
- Coordinating with printers, vendors, and internal partners
Required qualifications/skills:
- High school diploma/equivalent (associate degree/coursework preferred)
- 1–2 years in admin, coordination, marketing/communications, or related work (preferred)
- Strong organization, follow-through, and attention to detail
- Microsoft Office SharePoint proficiency (ClickUp preferred)
- Basic flyer/internal material updates (Canva preferred)
A Typical Day
You’re on-site in Grand Rapids, getting a quick pulse-check with the Marketing Manager, then hopping into the day’s queue: a few items need approvals, a couple assets need rounding up, and a vendor has a timing question. Between SharePoint files, project updates, and a handful of quick check-ins, you keep the team’s moving parts lined up.
Later, you pivot to the practical stuff—making sure routine materials are stocked, an order is ready to go, and a mailing is prepped with care and confidentiality. By day’s end, things feel calmer and clearer: fewer loose ends, smoother handoffs, and one more set of details handled the right way.
Perks
PTO, a snack/drink room, plus employee discounts.
