Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Manager to join our dynamic team. This role requires a CPA and/or EA designation and is focused on delivering exceptional tax expertise to both individual and business clients. As a Tax Manager, you will oversee complex tax engagements, manage and nurture client relationships with a high degree of professionalism and clarity, and lead a team of professionals to provide outstanding service and strategic tax planning.
Strong client communication is not optional in this role; it is a core competency. The ideal candidate is as comfortable discussing complex tax strategies with a business owner as they are preparing the technical work behind it. This includes a willingness to engage clients proactively through a variety of channels. Whether by phone, text message, virtual meeting, or recorded video updates, such as Loom, to ensure clients feel informed, supported, and prioritized at every stage of the engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and manage the preparation of complex federal and state individual and business tax returns.
- Provide strategic tax planning and consulting services to clients.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for client relationships, communicating proactively, clearly, and with confidence on all tax matters.
- Conduct tax research to address client needs and ensure compliance with tax laws.
- Deliver exceptional service to high-net-worth clients, addressing their unique tax and financial needs with professionalism and responsiveness.
- Mentor and supervise junior staff members, fostering professional development.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax regulations and changes in tax law.
- Develop and implement efficient tax processes and workflows.
- Participate in client meetings to discuss tax strategies and planning opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Senior Tax Manager to drive departmental success.
- Occasionally, create video walkthroughs for clients reviewing their tax returns and comparing them to their tax plans.
Qualifications
- CPA and/or EA designation required.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of public accounting experience with a focus on tax.
- Exceptional client-facing communication skills - both written and verbal - are required. Experience managing direct client relationships is strongly preferred.
- UltraTax experience required.
- Tax planning experience is a plus.
- Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax codes.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Microsoft Office Suite experience.
- QuickBooks Online experience is a plus.
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
Employment Details
- Type: Full-Time (32-35 hours per week; Monday-Thursday schedule - Fridays off).
- Salary: $85,000-$105,000 annually, depending on qualifications.
- Pay: Employees are paid semi-monthly via direct deposit.
