About Your Role

As a Pharmacy Clerk at Stillwater Family Pharmacy, you provide essential support to the pharmacy team by ensuring smooth, efficient operations and a positive experience for patients. You assist with front-end customer service, help manage inventory and stock, and support prescription intake and processing under the guidance of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists. This role requires attention to detail, professionalism, and excellent communication skills as you serve as a welcoming first point of contact for patients and visitors. Your contributions help maintain the overall efficiency, accuracy, and quality of pharmacy operations.


Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Customer Service and Front-End Support
    Serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing courteous assistance, answering routine questions, directing requests to the appropriate pharmacy staff, and ensuring a positive, professional patient experience.
  • Prescription Intake and Processing Assistance
    Support the pharmacy team by collecting prescription information, verifying insurance and patient details, and preparing materials for pharmacy technicians to process, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in workflow.
  • Inventory and Stock Coordination
    Assist with organizing, stocking, and maintaining pharmacy shelves and supplies, monitoring product levels, and helping with basic inventory control to support uninterrupted operations.
  • Administrative and Recordkeeping Support
    Maintain organized records, input data into pharmacy systems, manage documentation for orders and inventory, and ensure accuracy of front-end reporting and daily logs.
  • Operational Assistance and Workflow Support
    Work collaboratively with pharmacy technicians and pharmacists to facilitate smooth workflow, support special projects or promotions, and help maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
  • Compliance and Professional Conduct
    Perform all duties in accordance with company policies, HIPAA requirements, and Montana Board of Pharmacy regulations, recognizing that all clinical decisions and prescription verifications are the responsibility of licensed pharmacists or certified technicians.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • The position does not have any regular responsibility for overseeing or supervising the work of other team members.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in customer service, retail, or pharmacy operations is preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a retail, customer service, or healthcare setting is preferred but not required; willingness to learn pharmacy operations and workflow is essential.
  • Technical Skills: Basic computer literacy and familiarity with point-of-sale systems, data entry, and inventory management; ability to learn pharmacy management software.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with patients, healthcare providers, and team members.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately process transactions, handle prescriptions and inventory data, and maintain organized records.
  • Professional Attributes: Dependable, reliable, and able to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment; maintains integrity and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Compliance Awareness: Ability to follow company policies, HIPAA requirements, and Montana Board of Pharmacy guidelines relevant to non-clinical pharmacy support roles.


Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position is primarily performed in a retail and community pharmacy setting located within a grocery store environment. The work environment includes frequent interaction with the public, use of computers and pharmacy management systems, and exposure to typical pharmacy conditions such as medication storage areas, refrigeration units, and moderate noise levels. Work is performed during scheduled pharmacy hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.

The physical demands of this role include prolonged periods of standing and walking, frequent use of hands and fingers for data entry, counting, labeling, and handling medications, and regular reaching, bending, and twisting. The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move pharmacy supplies and inventory, typically up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Clear vision, manual dexterity, and the ability to focus on detailed work are essential.   • Work Schedule: Requires flexibility to work a variety of shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on needs.
