Rigger – Project Work (Data Centers/Pharma)
Location: Charlotte, NC (home base)
Travel: 25–50% for projects and training (per diem provided)
Employment Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Foreman or Superintendent
Role Summary
Hands-on craft role executing safe, precise rigging and machinery moving. Tasks include uncrating, moving, setting, anchoring, leveling, and protecting equipment in live, high-spec environments.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Participate in daily JSA/THA and toolbox talks; follow PPE, LOTO, hot work, and lift/rigging procedures.
- Adhere to OSHA 1910/1926 and ASME B30; exercise stop-work authority.
- Maintain site controls for GMP/cleanroom and data halls (gowning, contamination prevention, tool accountability, ESD awareness, FM200/clean agent areas).
- Execute work per MOP/SOP/EOP when applicable.
Field Execution
- Rig, move, and set equipment using forklifts/telehandlers, Versa-Lift class, gantries, toe/locknut jacks, tuggers, skates, slings, shackles, spreader bars.
- Perform uncrate, move-in, set-in-place, bolt/anchor, grout, and precision level/align to tolerance.
- Control lines, taglines, signaling (hand and radio), and load protection; keep pick paths clear and housekeeping tight.
- Assist with FAT/SAT support steps and hold points when requested.
Planning & Coordination
- Review day plan and drawings with foreman; confirm dimensions, anchor patterns, elevations, pick points, routes, ground bearing.
- Stage gear and materials; inspect rigging hardware before use; maintain inventory and tool care.
- Coordinate with other trades for access, deliveries, and shutdown windows.
Documentation & Communication
- Complete daily sign-ins, JSA acknowledgments, timecards, equipment inspections, and photo documentation.
- Report hazards, near misses, conflicts, and scope changes immediately to the foreman.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years rigging/machinery-moving, millwright, or heavy industrial experience.
- Working knowledge of rigging math (COG, sling angles, D/d, load factors), cribbing/shoring, and ground loading.
- Competent with forklifts/telehandlers and Versa-Lift class lifts; qualified signalperson; comfortable directing small picks under supervision of a qualified leader.
- Able to read basic drawings/rigging plans and follow written MOP/SOP/EOP steps.
- Valid driver’s license; able to pass background/drug testing for secure/GMP sites.
Preferred Credentials
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 (Construction)
- Qualified or NCCCO Rigger & Signal (or equivalent)
- First Aid/CPR
- Prior GMP/cleanroom or badge-controlled facility experience
Physical & Work Conditions
- Lift/carry 50 lbs; frequent climbing, kneeling, and work around active MEP systems.
- Work in noisy, hot/cold, and cleanroom environments; respirator use where required.
- Extended shifts/weekends during critical moves or shutdowns.
KPIs You Influence
- Zero recordables and zero dropped loads.
- Plan vs. actual: complete assigned tasks ≥ 95% of daily plan.
- Rework ≤ 1% of labor hours.
- Paperwork on time: same-day JSA/timecard/inspection compliance.
- Tool/gear care: 100% pre-use inspections; zero lost-time due to missing gear.

- Travel statement: “Home base is Charlotte, NC; projects include overnight travel across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. Typical rotations are Monday–Friday or 10-on/4-off depending on client windows.”

- Security/GMP clause: “Role requires compliance with site security and GMP documentation; prior badge-controlled facility experience preferred.”
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
This is very physical, hands-on work. A Rigger must be able to perform General Physical Activities — activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials up to 50 pounds. Must have the ability to work off the ground at varying heights, and not be affected by moving machinery or parts. Willing and able to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment and/or outdoors in all types of weather, and over uneven ground or terrain.
