The Accountant I reports to the Manager of Accounting and assists with closing the company books and ensuring timely and accurate monthly financial data. The position assists with the monthly financial close and preparation of journal entries and Balance Sheet account reconciliations. The Accountant I will work closely with accounting management to ensure financial statements are accurate and completed on a timely presentable.
This position will be located at Central Office - Indianapolis, IN.
Responsibilities
Support month end, quarter end, and year end close activities
- Preparation of journal entries while maintaining professional, orderly work papers and filing systems.
- Prepare and reconcile assigned accrual accounts such as Prepaids.
- Reconcile assigned Balance Sheet accounts to ensure proper recording of assets and liabilities.
- Work with accounting management and/or peers to analyze problems and make recommendations to correct and/or streamline processes.
- Research and prepare account and variance analyses for monthly close meetings.
- Communicate with cross departmental teams to ensure accurate recording of revenue and expenses.
- Work with Accounting team to identify and implement process improvements.
- Partner with associates in departments across the organization to improve processes related to accounting transactions.
- Document procedures and processes for the work assigned to this position.
- Insure work adheres to Accounting policies and works with accounting management to update Accounting policies as needed.
- Assist with the preparation of financial information required for periodic sales and use tax filings.
- Assist accounting management to ensure Medxcel is compliant with State tax jurisdictions regarding Sales and Use tax reporting.
- Perform miscellaneous projects on an add needed basis.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting - required.
- Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in the accounting field - required.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) - required.
- Experience in closing the books, financial systems analysis - preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel) required; Microsoft Dynamics AX or other ERP software - preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with other team members.
- Analytical thinking skills to perform analysis and develop accurate conclusions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
