What are the responsibilities and job description for the PET/CT Technologist position at MedWorks Imaging?
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled PET/CT Technologist to run our Gadsden PET/CT operation. This is a single-scanner outpatient site with one technologist, so the person in this role owns the imaging day end to end: greeting and preparing the patient, receiving and assaying the radiopharmaceutical dose, injecting, acquiring the PET and CT images on our GE PET/CT scanner, checking image quality, and pushing the completed study to PACS for the reading radiologist. In this vital role, you will perform advanced Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) scans to produce high-quality diagnostic images that assist physicians in accurate patient assessment. Your expertise in nuclear medicine, radiation safety, and patient care will ensure a seamless imaging process, contributing to exceptional healthcare outcomes. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a fast-paced, supportive environment committed to professional growth and excellence.
Duties
- Prepare patients for PET/CT procedures by explaining the process, ensuring comfort, and positioning them accurately for optimal imaging results.
- Operate PET and CT scanners with precision, adhering strictly to radiation safety procedures and protocols.
- Insert IV lines for radiotracer administration using aseptic techniques while monitoring patient response throughout the procedure.
- Implement radiation safety protocols consistently to protect patients, staff, and yourself during all imaging procedures.
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems to document patient information, procedure details, and imaging results accurately within Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).
- Maintain medical equipment operation standards through routine checks, troubleshooting, and calibration of PET/CT scanners and related devices.
- Assist in diagnostic evaluation by understanding medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic radiology principles to ensure high-quality imaging outcomes.
- Support patient care by demonstrating empathy, clear communication, and professionalism throughout the imaging process.
Requirements
- Certification as a Radiologic Technologist with specialized training or certification in nuclear medicine or PET/CT imaging.
- Proven experience operating PET scanners and CT machines
- Knowledge of radiation safety procedures and implementing radiation safety protocols effectively.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and diagnostic radiology principles relevant to PET/CT imaging.
- Proficiency in medical equipment operation including IV insertion techniques and aseptic procedures.
- Ability to interpret images accurately and assist in diagnostic evaluation under physician supervision.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required to ensure patient safety during procedures.
- Excellent communication skills for patient interaction and collaboration with healthcare teams.
