Machine Learning Engineer (various levels)
Roles: ML Scientist, Applied ML Engineer, AI Researcher (Title and level will be commensurate with your education and experience)
Location: Onsite – San Diego, CA (No remote)
Preferred Qualifications: PhD strongly preferred in Machine Learning, AI, Statistics, or related field (MS acceptable with strong research or deployment experience)
Salary Range: $100,000 – $175,000 (based on experience and skills) Annual Bonus
Overview
Join our ML & AI team in San Diego to design and deploy intelligent systems that drive the next generation of healthcare technology. From personalized interventions to automated care insights, you'll apply machine learning and AI to real-world clinical and operational problems at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, and productionize machine learning models that support clinical decision-making and operational optimization
- Conduct experimentation and analysis on large-scale, real-world healthcare data
- Collaborate with product, data, and engineering teams to integrate ML systems into MedWatchers’ platform
- Build pipelines for training, evaluation, and deployment of ML models
- Monitor model performance over time, ensuring fairness, robustness, and reliability
- Contribute to innovation around intelligent automation, predictive targeting, and real-time personalization
- Stay up-to-date with ML research and translate relevant advancements into production-ready solutions
Representative Technologies (familiarity with similar tools is welcome)
- ML Libraries & Frameworks: TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, XGBoost, LightGBM
- Data & Modeling Tools: Pandas, NumPy, Jupyter
- Deployment & MLOps: Docker, REST APIs, AWS SageMaker, GCP Vertex AI, MLflow
- Data Types: Claims data, EHRs, quality metrics (e.g., HEDIS, STAR), engagement behavior, time-series and text data
Ideal Experience
- Deep understanding of machine learning fundamentals (classification, regression, clustering, time-series, NLP, etc.)
- Familiarity with end-to-end ML lifecycle: data prep → modeling → evaluation → deployment → monitoring
- Understanding of statistical evaluation techniques and bias mitigation
- Bonus: Experience working with healthcare data or regulated environments
- Bonus: Familiarity with causal inference, reinforcement learning, or deep learning techniques
