Unit Highlights
Nurses on Unit 2NW (Surgical CardioVascular ICU) care for the acutely ill, cardiac surgery patient population. Most of the patients arrive directly from the OR, status post Open-Heart Surgery. These patients are either being stabilized pre-surgery for the OR or returned having undergone Coronary Artery Bypass (CABG), Valvular Surgery (AVR/MVR/TVR), Thoracic lung surgery or Heart Transplant/ LVAD implantation. In addition to normal ICU modalities, such as ventilators and continuous renal replacement therapy, we also treat our patients with the most advanced heart therapies and temporary mechanical support.
This 30 bed ICU is a great place to become an expert critical care nurse. Here you will be exposed to a variety of specialized procedural nursing skills. The CVICU Clinical Nurses are highly skilled, motivated, and committed to professional excellence.
They strive to provide safe, quality care by maintaining a patient-centered approach. As well as our patients, we benefit from a multi-disciplinary, collaborative team approach, including Intensivists, Residents/Fellows, Advanced Practice Providers, Respiratory Therapy and PT/OT.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
Experience
- Prior Clinical Nursing experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required.
