The Director of Engineering is responsible for directing, overseeing, and utilizing functional authority for operation, planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of all projects or process-related activities of engineering design or commissioning.
Responsibilities
- Directs a design team of project managers, engineers, and technical staff in the development of building designs that support client requirement and schedule.
- Directs a commissioning team of commissioning agents, and commissioning technicians to perform the commissioning team functions that support client requirement and schedule.
- Delegates projects among engineering or commissioning staff according to specialized knowledge, skills and abilities; and consider project requirements.
- Approves process specification and design or commissioning standards, and reviews engineering designs for accuracy and compliance.
- Maintains a strong relationship with clients and vendors, and develops new and expanded business based upon successful delivery of existing projects.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a 4-year accredited program.
- Acceptable Degree Alternatives: Engineering Technology / Construction Management Degree.
- 5 years minimum experience as a Project Manager.
- Alternative Minimum Qualifications: Must have a minimum of 15 years of experience as a Project Manager for the Company.
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project experience.
- Professional Engineering License.
- Must be able to lead presentations for marketing and business development for projects.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Versed in the industry and the Company's competitors.
- Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.
- Project Management Certification from a certifying agency (PMI)
- 30% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Climbing stairs.
- Remaining in a stationary position, often kneeling, standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Quiet environment.
- Light work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Be able to attend job site meetings as well as walk job sites under construction.
