MedQuest College has an immediate need for a Practical Nursing Instructor. This role develops and provides instruction that incorporates current teaching methodologies, technologies, and other trends which reflect advances in specific areas of the discipline associated with the individual’s teaching assignment by performing the following duties.

This position reports directly to the Practical Nursing Program Administrator.

General Scope of Responsibilities:

 Responsible to support/facilitate student learning in both the classroom and clinical setting.

 Assists with development of annual goals for program improvement; revisions and updates to program curriculum using current evidence-based material; reviews all student policies and revises policies related to admission, progression, graduation, standardized testing and remediation.

 Practice excellence in teaching and instruction.

 Demonstrates evidence of professional growth and academic currency.

 Carries out the responsibilities specific to his/her area, department and/or program.

 Contributes to the college community through participation in service activities.

 Contributes to the local community by participation in service activities.

 Clinical Administrative Duties

 Knowledge of nursing skills; lab equipment, teaching and instruction methods and practices; record keeping procedures.

 In conjunction with other faculty members, has the ability to supervise and evaluate students in the clinical setting; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 With input from the Program Administrator and faculty, coordinates and facilitates all facets of the clinical setting, including but not limited to:

 Training/orientation for faculty, staff, and students pertaining to clinical.

 Record keeping.

 Scheduling.

 Maintaining health and safety precautions for faculty, staff, and students.

 Assisting in gathering student medical records and maintaining a system to ensure CPR, TB, and other health requirements are up-to-date.

 Assessing educational needs of students.

 Establishing and monitoring clinical sites.

 Obtaining and maintaining cooperating agency contracts.

 Conducting site visits and assisting in clinical faculty evaluations.

 The clinical coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all KBN regulations related to the clinical experience are adhered to by faculty, teaching assistants and preceptors.

 Teaching and Instruction Assistant

 Begins class on time in an orderly, organized fashion.

 Courteous and approachable to students, and maintains confidentiality.

 Follows approved policies and procedures with all instructional activities.

 Uses effective motivational techniques to help stimulate students’ personal desire to learn the subject/skill(s).

 Constantly strives to improve instructional approaches through: Self-reflection on teaching practices, observation and study of new instructional techniques, the use of technology where applicable to enhance the learning environment, continual revision/updating of course content for relevance, and attendance at department meetings, committee meetings, and conference to improve instructional practices.

 Professional Development and Faculty Development

 Nursing program employees are required to engage in professional and faculty development activities, as outlined by MedQuest College, the KBN, and accrediting agencies.

MedQuest College values the contributions made to the local community by the instructional staff. These contributions can enhance the faculty’s expertise in his/her field and contribute to the College. These contributions are at the option of the faculty member and are not formal requirements of the position, but they are recommended.

Normal Position Requirements:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to successfully perform the job.

Knowledge: (Per 201 KAR 20:310 Faculty for prelicensure registered nurse and practical nurse programs) Section 2. Regulation 4:

 Nurse faculty in a practical nurse program shall have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing from an accredited college or university.

o The nurse faculty shall hold a temporary work permit or a current unencumbered license for privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, except as set out in paragraph (i) of this subsection.

o a minimum of two (2) years full time or equivalent experience as a registered nurse within the immediate past five (5) years and shall maintain expertise appropriate to teaching responsibilities.

o The nurse faculty shall document preparation in educational activities in the area of teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development and implementation. The preparation shall be acquired through planned faculty in-service learning activities, continuing education offerings, or academic courses.

Nurse faculty shall have and maintain expertise in the clinical or functional area of responsibility.

Nurse faculty hired without prior teaching experience shall have a mentor assigned and an educational development plan implemented.

  • A clinical instructor shall function under the guidance of the nurse faculty responsible or a given course.
  • A clinical instructor shall hold a current unencumbered license, privilege, or temporary work permit to practice as a registered nurse in the state of the student’s clinical site.
  • A clinical instructor shall have a minimum of two (2) years full time or equivalent experience within the functional area as a registered nurse within the immediate past five (5) years and evidence of clinical competence.

Skills:

 Able to analyze and interpret accreditation criteria, state agency regulations and nursing practice organization standards as they relate to student learning opportunities.

 Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

 Has strong interpersonal skills with student and staff populations.

 Demonstrates organizational, prioritization and self-motivation skills.

 Demonstrates proficiency with the use of standard business productivity, computer database management and Internet applications on personal commuters.

Abilities:

 Demonstrate the ability to respect students and colleagues.

 Has the ability to effectively present information to faculty, academic and campus leaders, corporate leaders, and public groups as required.

 Has the ability to read, interpret and implement accreditation criteria and state agency regulations.

 Has the ability to assist with the resolution of inquiries and complaints from students, faculty, regulatory agencies, clinical partners, and/or public groups.

 Possesses a strong commitment to the mission and goals of MedQuest Colllege

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
