Purchasing & Inventory Specialist (Pharmacy)
Location: Pittsburgh, PA (15238)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Day Shift (8:00–4:30 or 8:30–5:00)
*One rotating Sunday approximately every 4 weekends*
Salary Range: $52,000 – $62,400 annually
Travel: Up to 15%
We are seeking a Purchasing & Inventory Specialist to join a centralized Inventory Team supporting multiple long-term care pharmacy locations in Pittsburgh, PA. This role plays a critical behind-the-scenes part in ensuring pharmacies have the right medications, at the right time, and at the best possible cost.
This is a high-impact, growth-oriented position ideal for someone who is analytical, organized, and strong in Excel. You’ll manage purchasing decisions, oversee medication inventory, support automated dispensing technology, and collaborate closely with pharmacy teams and vendors.
What You’ll Do:
Purchasing & Cost Optimization
- Place daily medication and supply orders for multiple pharmacy locations
- Analyze wholesaler pricing and opportunity reports to select the most cost-effective drug options (NDCs)
- Manage purchasing strategies to meet vendor contract and discount goals
- Update medication cost data and purchasing metrics
Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate inventory records across pharmacy locations
- Monitor expiration dates, rotate stock, and reduce medication waste
- Lead physical inventory counts and resolve discrepancies
- Manage short supply and backordered medications by identifying alternatives
- Coordinate inventory transfers between locations as needed
Specialty & Dropship Coordination
- Track and coordinate specialty or rare medications not routinely stocked
- Manage dropship orders to ensure timely delivery to facilities
Omnicell Administration
- Serve as the administrator for Omnicell automated dispensing cabinets
- Add and manage users, monitor inventory levels, and troubleshoot issues
- Generate reports and optimize cabinet inventory and utilization
Reporting & Compliance
- Generate inventory, expiration, and utilization reports
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory guidelines
- Support audits and quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate documentation and filing systems
Required
- College degree (any field)
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, reporting)
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and daily deadlines
- Full onsite availability
- Strong attention to detail and accountability
Preferred (Not Required)
- Pharmacy or healthcare experience
- Procurement, purchasing, inventory, or supply chain experience
- Familiarity with Omnicell or pharmacy inventory systems
