The Accountant is a pivotal role responsible for maintaining the complete financial integrity of the hospital and its related subsidiaries, operating under limited supervision and strict adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position is crucial for the timely and accurate completion of the month-end close process, which includes booking complex journal entries, reconciling key balance sheet accounts, and preparing detailed financial statements.
Job Duties
- Maintains the books and records of the hospital and related subsidiaries with limited supervision in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Prepares financial statements from the entity’s statistical and financial data, reconciliations, and other supporting schedules and reports.
- Prepares, reviews analysis of multiple monthly and annual financial statements and participates in month-end financial close review meetings within the preset time frame.
- Maintains accurate and timely general ledger and balance sheet audit worksheets.
- Books monthly journal entries, recurring and non-routine, including accruals, prepaid analysis.
- Responsible for internal and external reporting including all financial surveys, IRS forms, pools, cash receipts assessments, etc.
- Assists in annual budget and ICR preparation reporting as needed.
- Compiles supporting schedules for annual tax returns (990’s, 1120’s and CHAR500's) and ensure timely compliance and filing.
- Acts as liaison with outside audit firms and provides all requested documentation (e.g., year-end financial statement audits, pension audits, A-133 grant audits, Worker’s Compensation audits, REAC filings, etc.).
- Analyzes monthly expense and FTE budget variances.
- Monitors capital lease and all debt obligations and reconciles the related long-term and short-term liability accounts.
- Prepares and updates monthly schedule of Property, Plant and Equipment acquisitions and disposals and estimated depreciation calculations.
- Reconciles cash receipts/disbursements daily requiring verification to General Ledger and bank support.
- Prepares weekly cash disbursement outflow report for cash reporting.
Requirements
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of accounting experience, health care setting preferred but not required.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required, other specialties considered
