Job Overview
Mediterrano is seeking an experienced, hands-on Assistant General Manager to help lead our front-of-house team and support the restaurant’s daily operations.
Mediterrano is a locally owned, established Ann Arbor restaurant and the sister restaurant to Carlyle Grill. We are looking for a hospitality professional who leads by example, communicates clearly, and understands how thoughtful service, consistent standards, and strong financial management work together to create a successful restaurant.
The Assistant General Manager will work closely with the General Manager and culinary leadership to oversee service, develop employees, maintain operational standards, and provide an excellent experience for every guest.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead floor operations and maintain a visible presence during service
- Coach, develop, and hold front-of-house employees accountable
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and employee evaluations
- Build effective schedules based on business needs and labor goals
- Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate daily priorities
- Maintain high standards for hospitality, cleanliness, organization, and food safety
- Respond professionally to guest concerns and resolve problems promptly
- Support private dining, large parties, and special events
- Monitor labor, sales, discounts, voids, cash handling, and closing procedures
- Assist with beverage inventory, ordering, and cost controls
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen and management team
- Help implement systems that improve consistency, efficiency, and employee performance
- Serve as the manager in charge when the General Manager is unavailable
What we are looking for:
- At least two years of restaurant management or comparable leadership experience
- Strong understanding of full-service restaurant operations
- A genuine commitment to hospitality and guest satisfaction
- Confident leadership and effective communication skills
- Ability to coach employees while maintaining clear expectations
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
- Working knowledge of scheduling, labor management, inventory, and cost controls
- Ability to remain composed and make sound decisions during busy services
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Wine, beverage, private dining, or banquet experience is a plus

Compensation and benefits:
- Salary: $55,000-$70,000
