Location Transition: The position will transition to Miramar, Florida 33025 by the end of November 2026.

Job Summary:

The Senior Director, Laboratory Operations provides senior operational leadership and oversight across MediPath laboratory services. This role is accountable for the performance, stability, efficiency, and continuous improvement of laboratory operations and for ensuring departmental leadership can independently manage day-to-day operations while supporting broader organizational objectives. The Senior Director leads through laboratory directors, managers, supervisors, and other operational leaders and partners with the office of the General Manager, consulting resources, and cross-functional leadership to translate organizational strategy into sustainable operational execution.

Essential Key Responsibilities:

➢ Laboratory Operations, including:

· Provide senior operational oversight across laboratory departments and applicable ancillary laboratory functions.

· Direct and hold accountable departmental directors, managers, and other operational leaders for effective management of their areas.

· Ensure laboratory operations are appropriately staffed, organized, and resourced to support testing volumes, service expectations, and anticipated growth.

· Identify and resolve operational risks, bottlenecks, capacity constraints, recurring escalations, and cross-department workflow issues.

· Establish clear escalation pathways and reduce dependence on General Manager, Assistant General Manager, and other senior leadership for routine operational matters.

· Lead stabilization efforts in departments that are not consistently meeting operational expectations.

➢ Leadership and Organizational Development, including:

· Provide direct leadership, coaching, performance management, and development of laboratory directors and designated operational leaders.

· Establish clear expectations for leadership accountability, decision-making, employee management, communication, and operational ownership.

· Assess leadership capability and identify development needs, organizational gaps, and succession risks.

· Ensure department leaders appropriately manage employee performance, attendance, competency, productivity, and workplace expectations.

· Make recommendations regarding organizational structure, leadership roles, staffing models, succession planning, and leadership changes when appropriate.

➢ Performance Management and Continuous Improvement, including:

· Establish, monitor, and maintain meaningful operational key performance indicators and management reporting.

· Hold departmental leadership accountable for performance against established goals.

· Drive measurable improvement in turnaround time, productivity, staffing utilization, workflow efficiency, quality, service, backlog management, and operational reliability.

· Identify root causes of performance gaps and ensure corrective actions result in sustainable improvement.

· Promote data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement throughout laboratory operations.

➢ Strategic Initiative Execution, including:

· Partner with the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, executive leadership, and designated consulting, transformation, technology, and project resources to support organizational strategic priorities.

· Translate organizational objectives into operational requirements, departmental responsibilities, resource needs, and implementation plans.

· Ensure laboratory departments are operationally prepared to support major implementations, technology changes, service expansions, facility transitions, and other strategic initiatives.

· Identify resource conflicts, dependencies, capacity constraints, and implementation risks and escalate with actionable recommendations.

· Hold departmental leaders accountable for completion of assigned strategic deliverables.

➢ Financial and Resource Management, including:

· Participate in development and management of laboratory operating budgets.

· Monitor labor utilization, overtime, staffing levels, productivity, supply utilization, and significant operational expenses.

· Evaluate staffing and resource requests based on workload, productivity, service requirements, financial considerations, and organizational priorities.

· Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and resource utilization without compromising quality, compliance, or patient service.

· Support capital planning and evaluation of operational investments.

➢ Quality, Regulatory, and Compliance, including:

· Partner with medical, technical, quality, and compliance leadership to maintain ongoing regulatory and accreditation readiness.

· Ensure operational practices support applicable federal, state, accreditation, safety, and organizational requirements.

· Reinforce leadership accountability for quality indicators, competency, corrective actions, documentation, and sustained compliance.

· Participate in regulatory inspections, corrective action planning, and operational remediation as appropriate.

Education:

· Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.

· Master’s or Doctorate degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Laboratory Science, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

· Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible laboratory or healthcare operations experience, including significant leadership responsibility.

· Demonstrated experience managing complex laboratory operations involving multiple departments, service lines, locations, or operational functions.

· Demonstrated experience directly leading managers, directors, or other people leaders.

· Demonstrated success improving operational performance, establishing accountability, developing leaders, and leading organizational change.

· Experience supporting major laboratory implementations, technology transformation, facility transitions, service expansion, or operational stabilization preferred.

Qualifications:

· ASCP or other applicable laboratory certification preferred.

· Florida laboratory licensure, where applicable to the responsibilities of the position, preferred.

· Advanced knowledge of laboratory operations and management principles.

· Strong leadership, coaching, organizational development, and performance-management capabilities.

· Demonstrated ability to lead through other leaders rather than personally managing routine departmental activities.

· Strong operational judgment with the ability to distinguish issues requiring senior escalation from those appropriately managed within the established leadership structure.

· Strong analytical, problem-solving, financial, and data-driven decision-making skills.

· Ability to prioritize competing operational and strategic demands and lead effectively through change, ambiguity, and operational instability.

· Strong executive-level written and verbal communication skills and ability to provide clear, actionable recommendations.

· Ability to collaborate effectively across laboratory, medical, technology, administrative, consulting, and executive teams.

· Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with the HIPAA compliance program.

Environmental Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Office/laboratory work environment with exposure to various chemicals and equipment. Prolonged sitting, frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Safety and personal protective equipment are provided and required. Requires normal hearing range and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office and laboratory equipment.
