Job Title: Shelter Manager - Next Step Up Emergency Housing Shelter
Supervisor: Program Director

Positions Supervised: Shelter Community Manager, Management Assistants
Job Summary: Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Next Step-Up Emergency Housing Shelter, as well as Shelter guest services provided by the Authority.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans, coordinates, and monitors all functions of the Next Step Up Emergency Housing Shelter.
- Schedules work hours, posts the schedule and coordinates appropriate coverage to ensure shelter is properly staffed at all times.
- Ensures all necessary documentation, both legal and technical, are on file for compliance monitoring purposes.
- Collaborates with Community Manager on day-to-day operations
- Engages Shelter Guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners and generally serves as the primary point of contact for the Shelter with community partners on Guest matters.
- Supervises program staff, including performing personnel evaluations and quality control assignments
- Serves as primary contact for on-call matters, and appropriately respond to the Shelter location as needed to ensure appropriate coverage.
- Monitors and supports delivery of Shelter Guest day-to-day activities, including providing case review, support, and direction for program staff.
- Supports and monitors all facets of Shelter operations, including facility maintenance, security, hospitality services, and neighbor relations.
- Ensures all data necessary for program monitoring and reporting is collected and maintained consistent with agency and state policies and procedures for Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
- Engages in ongoing professional education (e.g., remote workshops, conferences) to learn about and adopt emerging and established evidence-based practices.
Other duties as assigned
Skills and /or Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related discipline preferred
- Experience administering evidence-based approaches to crisis assistance and trauma-informed programming.
- Two years’ experience managing a similarly sized organization or program required.
- Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software, with excellent word processing and spreadsheet skills.
- Excellent problem resolution, influencing, and conflict management skills.
- Ability to work independently at all levels in the organization and across diverse cultures.
- Must be certified in CPR/First Aid or able to attain certification.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Inherently Hazardous and/or Physically Demanding Working Conditions:
- The essential functions of this job require the encountering of irate clients or individuals and be exposed to environmental factors including cold, excessive heat, noise, fumes, dirt, contagious diseases, unsanitary conditions, insect infestation, bodily wastes, odors, common office chemicals, and may involve lifting of up to 40 pounds
- This position’s incumbent may be required to transport clients and/or make home visits post Shelter exit
Additional Requirements:
- Must successfully undergo a criminal background check
- Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License and be acceptable to the Authority’s automobile insurance provider
- Must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Must be able to deal with culturally diverse populations and perform within strict ethical standards
- This position may require additional training and travel in order to meet performance expectations
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client issues and agency matters as defined by professional ethics and applicable laws.
