Phlebotomist I | Full-Time (3514)

POSITION PURPOSE

Performs routine tests in the medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Performs blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups. Obtains the correct amount and type of specimen. Labels and records test tubes, specimen logs, and temperature logs. Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens.
• Interprets physician orders and secures a requisition before performing tests.
• Perform drug screenings, including DOT. Performs postmortem specimen collection.
• Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures. Performs work in accordance with laboratory regulation standards.
• Performs non-patient facing duties, including inventory, stocking supplies, sanitizing, filing, contacting physician offices or offsite laboratories, answering phones, and utilizing email as appropriate.
• Provide superior customer service to patients.
• Complete online and in-person training courses timely.
• Participates in department or system performance improvement.
• Completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by the service line, facility, and department which are specific to the needs of the patient population served.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

• One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certificate.
• One year phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Customer service in a service environment preferred.
