POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides imaging care services in accordance with the policies of MHS and directives of the medical staff.
Possess the ability to comprehend and follow written or verbal instruction or directions. Adheres to MHS
Standard Precaution policy and procedure. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor. Work with
supervisors, other department managers and medical staff in order to provide the best patient care
possible.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table, using supportive devices to obtain precise patient position and following protocols specified by Radiologist.
- Administers contrast media orally or assists Physician in intravenous administration.
- Enters data such as type of scan requested, slice thickness; scan time, and other technical data into computer.
- Starts CT scanner to scan designated anatomical area of patient.
- Talks to patient over intercom system and observes patient through window of control room to monitor patient safety and comfort.
- Views images or organs or tissue on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures.
- Starts camera to produce radiographs.
- Evaluates radiographs, videotape, and computer-generated information for technical quality.
- Able to perform functions in PACS.
- Maintains positive and effective relationships with other departments and the Medical Staff.
- Consults with physicians to resolve problems and to obtain and provide patient care input.
- Maintains open communication and problem solving atmosphere with other departments to achieve quality patient care.
- Any other job duty as allowed by licensure.
- Attends in-service training at the request of their Director, including hospital orientation and Annual Skills Fair.
- Will be preceptor to new hires as requested.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
- One year certificate from college or technical school accredited program in Radiology Technology; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current Texas American Registry of Radiology Technologists licensure; Certified Medical Radiology Technologist.
- BLS required within 30 days of hire.
- MRT, ARRT (R), AART (CT) eligible.
- Registered in CT within 24 months of hire.
- Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served as applicable.
