Wastewater Plant Operator
Position Summary
Responsible for the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and reporting functions of a wastewater treatment plant to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory standards, including OEPA requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plant Operations
· Operate wastewater treatment facilities including bar screens, lift stations, and primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes.
· Monitor and control filters, activated sludge systems, chlorination systems, and sludge digestion processes.
· Adjust flow patterns and treatment processes to maintain optimal plant performance.
· Clean screening devices, transfer sludges, backwash filters, add chemicals, and replace chlorinator tanks.
· Make operational adjustments as necessary to meet regulatory and effluent quality standards.
Maintenance & Repairs
· Perform preventive maintenance on plant equipment, including lubricating moving parts, adjusting and replacing packing, and removing/replacing worn components.
· Repair and maintain chemical feed systems and other treatment plant equipment.
· Assist in operation and repair of other department equipment as needed.
Laboratory & Testing
· Conduct daily chemical tests including settleable solids, pH, chlorine residual, suspended solids, ammonia, and turbidity.
· Perform routine laboratory and biological testing on influent and effluent samples to determine treatment effectiveness and compliance.
Documentation & Reporting
· Maintain accurate plant operation records.
· Prepare daily and monthly reports detailing test results, inspections, and operational data.
· Respond to routine telephone inquiries and direct non-routine matters to appropriate personnel.
· Continuously study and review treatment plant operations to maintain and improve performance.
Bargaining Unit Position.
Rate:
Start: $25.24 / One Year: $26.27
Additional hourly rate: $0.60/hr for Second Shift, $0.70/hr for Third Shift, and $1.50/hr for Weekend Shifts
Shifts: multiple
Minimum Position Requirements:
1. High School Diploma or GED
2. Must obtain Ohio EPA Class I Wastewater License within two (2) years of employment
3. Valid Ohio Driver’s License, clean driving record and proof of adequate vehicle insurance
