Summary
The Medication Assistant coordinates and administers medication to assisted living residents as assigned.
Licenses/Certification
- Must complete all required training/competencies in proper handling and administration of medication as per state and company requirements.
- Valid CPR/AED certification within 60 days of employment
- One year experience in the nursing field is preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Following the rights of medication administration, accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders with medication administrations.
- Medication administration for assigned residents and documents administration or refusals per local, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Promptly communicates repeated medication refusals, medication errors, and actual/suspected change of condition to the appropriate health care provider.
- Communicates to the prescribing licensed health care professional if the resident requires prolonged use of an as needed (PRN) medication.
- Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
- Ensures that supplies are utilized economically and that equipment is clean and maintained in a safe manner.
- Reports and records pertinent observations and reactions regarding residents.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
- Has a clear understanding of medication administration.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Skilled in documentation in electronically based health records
- Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
