Pharmacy Technician Job Description – West Olympia Pharmacy
Position Overview
West Olympia Pharmacy is seeking a detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in providing safe, accurate, and personalized medication services to patients in Olympia, Washington. This role supports a community pharmacy environment that includes prescription dispensing, compounding, delivery, durable medical equipment support, and front-end patient service.
Key Responsibilities
· Receive, process, and enter new and refill prescriptions accurately under pharmacist supervision.
· Prepare, count, package, and label medications for pharmacist final verification.
· Assist with non-sterile compounding activities in accordance with pharmacy procedures and applicable standards.
· Process third-party insurance claims and help resolve billing rejections.
· Support patient service at the front counter, by phone, and through the drive-up window, while referring clinical questions to the pharmacist.
· Maintain inventory, monitor expirations, receive orders, and support recall procedures.
· Coordinate prescription delivery workflows and related documentation.
· Assist with durable medical equipment documentation and product handling.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy work area.
· Complete ongoing training and required continuing education.
Required Qualifications
· Active Washington State Pharmacy Technician credential in good standing.
· High school diploma or GED.
· Completion of a Washington-approved pharmacy technician training program, including required pharmacy law training.
· Successful completion of an approved national certification exam such as PTCB or ExCPT.
· Strong attention to detail, accuracy, professionalism, and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Prior experience in a retail or community pharmacy setting.
· Experience with non-sterile compounding, insurance billing, or durable medical equipment workflows.
· Familiarity with pharmacy software and prescription processing systems.
Work Location and Schedule
The position is based at West Olympia Pharmacy, 400 Yauger Way SW, Olympia, WA 98502. Store hours listed publicly are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the pharmacy closed on Sundays.
Licensure and Continuing Education
The selected candidate must maintain an active Washington Pharmacy Technician credential and complete the continuing education required by Washington State for renewal.
