Pharmacy Technician – Billing Specialist

As a Pharmacy Technician Billing Technician, will impact the lives of our customers by-

• Performing duties assigned by a licensed pharmacist. Areas of work are checked routinely for maintenance of quality control. Work is conducted in accordance with generally accepted standards of practice following departmental procedures and policies as outlined in the department operations manual.
• Demonstrating competence in the area of regulatory compliance and ensures that the property stays in regulatory compliance with all regulatory agencies
• Reading and interpreting physicians’ orders received in the pharmacy and transcribing the information into the pharmacy computer medication profile. Requires knowledge to adjust dosing times as pharmacy will generate MARs; prepare unit doses; and labels individual patient medications for dispensing to the nursing unit.
• Attending and participating in pharmacy tech meetings to exchange ideas to achieve goals of the department.
• Electronic billing of private pay, Medicare, Medicaid, and Third Party claims utilizing pharmacy software.
• Ensuring accuracy of adjudicated claims by establishing and maintaining auditing procedures.
• Establishing pharmacy contracts with third party payers as needed.
• Generating reports from NetRx and QS/1 and presents finding to Pharmacy Manager.
• Managing Prior Authorizations required from Third Party Insurance.
• Managing electronic claims log for rejected claims and supervising scheduled claims daily.
• Following up with payers, patients and other appropriate parties to collect open billings in a timely manner and to ensure compliance with billing regulations.
• Following company policy on billing and auditing procedures.
• Processing credit card transactions for charge accounts monthly.
• Generating and transmitting refill reports monthly.
• Assisting pharmacy manager with development and implementation of Therapeutic Interchange processes.
• Keeping procedures up-to-date in pharmacy tech manual to train new personnel and to have quick reference to specific jobs so they are performed according to the policies of the department.
• Assisting pharmacy staff with checking in orders, putting orders away and filing associated paperwork as needed.
• Continuing education by attending drug in-services and keeping up with policy changes.

• Other duties as assigned.

To become a Pharmacy Technician Billing Technician, you will need-

• Certificate from pharmacy technical training program, junior college graduate or State certification as Pharmacy Technician preferred.
• Associate degree or degree from technical program, OR High school diploma and 1-2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, or equivalent.
• Active and undisciplined Pharmacy Technician Registration in the State of Illinois
• Ethical Conduct.
• Possess the technical skills and abilities to perform and provide top notch service.
• Thoroughness & detail oriented

• Must be willing/able to work on site in rotating shifts which include weekends and holidays, and work during inclement weather will be required.
• Great communication and interpersonal skills required along with the heart and passion to work with older adults while providing the best care possible.
• Must have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, to be flexible, to work well with many interruptions and have skill in multi-tasking.
• Must exhibit and promote a high level of customer service, hospitality, curiosity and friendliness towards all residents, visitors, employees and the overall facility.
• Be able to demonstrate proficiency in Internet browsers (e.g., Explorer, Chrome, and Fire Fox), Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word and Publisher, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and any HR related systems if applicable.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand/move, communicate, and identify written information.The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds independently; occasionally lift and/or move up to 200 pounds with assistance.
