About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist Assistant to join our team at UAB Medical West. Provides direct patient care under the supervision of the Rehab Director and staff Occupational Therapists. As an Occupational Therapist Assistant , you will be responsible for providing quality patient care and developing treatment plans to help patients achieve their goals. You will work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. This is a PRN position, which means you will have the flexibility to work on an as-needed basis.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently licensed by Alabama Board of Occupational Therapy as COTA
- BLS certification or must obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in an acute care setting
- Experience working with patients with neurological conditions
- Experience with electronic medical records
Responsibilities:
- Conduct patient evaluations to determine their needs and develop individualized treatment plans
- Reports verbally to Occupational Therapists’ patient’s progress, reactions and motivation toward established short term and long term goals as indicated but at a minimum once per week.
- Provide therapy services to patients in accordance with their treatment plans.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective patient care
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
- Stay current with the latest developments in occupational therapy and incorporate them into your practice
- Ability to provide clinical guidance to Occupational Therapist Assistant students during scheduled clinical experiences.
- Ability to provide direction to Occupational Therapy Attendants and volunteers within their stated job description.

As an Occupational Therapist Assistant, you will use your expertise in anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology to help patients regain their independence and improve their quality of life. You will also use your excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.
