Position Summary
The Membership and Business Development Manager is responsible for delivering value to the Association’s members, partners, and sponsors to drive retention, engagement, and long-term revenue growth. This role serves as the primary relationship owner for assigned accounts, ensuring that each organization understands, receives, and realizes the full value of their membership or partnership. The Manager develops and executes account engagement strategies, proactively manages at-risk relationships, and ensures high-quality onboarding and ongoing experiences.
This is a value-delivery, relationship, and account management role. While the Manager will support new business efforts as needed, success in this role is defined by retention, satisfaction, and demonstrated ROI for new and existing accounts. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, externally focused professional who can manage multiple relationships simultaneously, communicate value clearly, and translate Association offerings into meaningful outcomes for members.

Key Responsibilities
Account Management and Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned member, partner, and sponsor accounts
- Build strong, trusted relationships with key contacts across accounts
- Develop and execute individualized account engagement and retention plans
- Maintain regular, proactive communication to ensure high engagement and satisfaction
- Identify and escalate risks to retention, and implement recovery strategies
Onboarding and Experience Delivery
- Lead onboarding for new members, partners, and sponsors, ensuring a strong and structured start
- Educate accounts on available benefits, programs, and opportunities for engagement
- Ensure seamless engagement experience from sales to onboarding and ongoing account management to renewal
- Drive early engagement milestones to increase long-term retention
Value Delivery and ROI Communication
- Ensure all contracted benefits are delivered accurately and on time
- Partner with internal teams to coordinate fulfillment of member and sponsor deliverables
- Translate participation into clear, outcome-based value and ROI messaging
- Develop account summaries, reports, and presentations that demonstrate impact
Retention Strategy and At-Risk Management
- Monitor engagement, usage, and satisfaction indicators across accounts
- Identify at-risk members and partners and develop targeted retention strategies
- Lead renewal preparation, including value articulation and engagement planning
- Partner with SVP on high-priority or complex accounts
Marketing and Messaging Support
- Contribute to development of member-facing messaging and materials
- Craft compelling written and verbal communications that articulate value propositions
- Develop presentations (PowerPoint) and communications tailored to different audiences
- Collaborate with Marketing to align messaging with broader brand and engagement strategies
Sales Support
- Support senior staff in new business development efforts as needed
- Assist with proposals, presentations, and follow-up for prospective accounts
- Provide insights from existing accounts to inform sales strategy and positioning
Team Leadership and Coordination
- Provide day-to-day direction and oversight to the Membership and Business Development Associate
- Ensure alignment between account management activities and operational execution
- Partner across the Association to deliver a cohesive member experience

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience and knowledge of the MPL/HPL industry, the insurance industry, healthcare, or an insurance Producer License a plus
- 5 years of experience in account management, membership, client services, or related roles
- Experience in an association, professional services, or B2B environment preferred
- Experience supporting or collaborating with sales teams a plus
- Willingness to travel (approximately 6 trips or 30 non-consecutive days annually, including some weekends).

- Hybrid work environment for local employees (based in Rockville, Maryland).
- This opportunity is open to remote employees within the continental U.S.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 30 lbs. for event logistics as needed.

Compensation range for this position:
- DMV Metro Area: ($80,000 - $110,000)
- Remote - National Tier 1 (e.g., San Francisco, NY): ($85,000 - $115,000)
- Remote - National Tier 2: ($70,000 - $100,000)
- Compensation commensurate with experience, includes competitive market-based salary and incentive compensation.
